  •      Rebels face Cyclones
          The UNLV football team battles the mighty winds of Iowa State University Saturday in the Rebels' home-opener at newly renovated Sam Boyd Stadium.
          Actually, it's the Iowa State Cyclones, and the last time the two teams met Iowa State swept through the Rebels with a 57-30 win.
          The Rebels (2-0) are coming off a stunning last-second 27-24 win over Baylor last week.
          Iowa State (2-0) beat intrastate rival Iowa last Saturday.
         
         Life's a volleyball tourney
          Top beach volleyball players will compete today through Sunday in the King and Queen of the Beach Invitational at the Hard Rock Hotel, 4455 Paradise Road.
          Competition today and Saturday will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.
          Tickets are $5 and $10 today; $10, $20 and $30 Saturday; and $10, $25 and $35 Sunday.
         
         Arts, crafts at Cashman
          Arts and crafts will be for sale this weekend during the Crafter's Village Festival to be held at Cashman Center, 850 Las Vegas Blvd. North.
          Event hours are noon-7 p.m. today and 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
          Admission is $6 for adults, $4 for seniors and $2 for children ages 6-16.
         
         Staples sings at amphitheater
          Singer Mavis Staples will be in performance at 8 p.m. Saturday in the Clark County Government Center amphitheater, 500 S. Grand Central Parkway.
          Gates open at 6:30 p.m.
          Tickets are $8 general admission in advance and $10 at the gate. Children under 12 will be admitted free.
         
         Bull riders in shoot-out
          The Professional Bull Riders Bud Light Cup Series comes to Laughlin this weekend with the third annual Laughlin Shoot-Out to be held at the Laughlin Events Venue at Big Bend Drive and Edison Way.
          Bull riders will compete at 7:30 p.m. today and Saturday.
          Tickets are $18, $25 and $50 each day.
