Man guilty in another shooting
Review-Journal A man who previously pleaded guilty to shooting two youths at Clark High School admitted involvement Wednesday in another shooting that injured two other teens. Maynor Villanueva, age unavailable, on Wednesday morning pleaded guilty in District Court to attempted murder in connection with an Oct. 2 shooting in the 1000 block of Magnolia Avenue, near Washington Avenue and Rancho Drive. Two teens, ages 14 and 16, were injured in the attack but survived. Chief Deputy District Attorney Ed Kane said authorities suspected the shooting was motivated by gang affiliations. Days after that shooting, Villanueva was involved in an Oct. 11 shooting that wounded two on the grounds of Clark High School. Villanueva told police that the incident was motivated by rival gang members flashing gang signs.
He pleaded guilty to attempted murder in the case in March and will be sentenced in May. The plea agreement calls for a sentence of between four and 40 years. "This one (Wednesday's plea) probably won't mean any additional time to what he gets in the Clark shooting," Kane said. He added that the district attorney's office was not opposed to a sentence concurrent with Villanueva's sentencing in the Clark case. Villanueva's attorney, Jennifer Bolton, said Villanueva "agreed to the plea because it was in his best interests given the way the facts of the two cases worked out."
