Suspect sought in hit-and-run death
Review-Journal Police are searching for the driver of a pickup who deliberately ran over a bicyclist, killing the man Thursday afternoon. Las Vegas police Lt. Wayne Petersen said a 40-year-old man, whose name was not immediately released, was riding his bike at 12:39 p.m. when he got into an argument with the driver of a truck at West Oakey Boulevard and Santa Margarita Street, near Rainbow Boulevard. Petersen described the argument as a "traffic altercation." Moments after words were exchanged, the truck started to drive off onto Oakey, while the bicyclist rode off on Santa Margarita.
"The driver then stopped, put the truck into reverse and backed around the corner, back onto Santa Margarita," Petersen said. The truck accelerated and knocked the man off his bicycle. He died at University Medical Center a short time later, Petersen said. The pickup was described as a metallic green or teal-green Ford, possibly a F-150. The passenger-side mirror was broken off, and there may be damage to the rear passenger side. Anyone with information on the identity of the driver or the whereabouts of the truck may call police at 229-3521. Callers who wish to remain anonymous may phone 385-5555.
