Today at Santa Anita
By Richard Eng First Post 1 p.m. Race 1-1 1/8th miles (turf), Purse $47,000, Maiden special weights, 4 and up Breko-His two best turf races came on SA sod; Nakatani will keep him covered up until they turn for home. Neki-Interesting switch to Espinoza, which will help the value; got a lot out of his career debut start. Longshot-G Five Race 2-1 mile, Purse $17,000, Claiming $12,500, Fillies, 4-year-olds Kato Kat-Second start off a three-month hiatus; was given a test drive in last, not stretches out where she does her best running. La Vie En Rose-Logical chalk won this same condition two races ago; did a good job versus much tougher in last. Longshot-Five Nines Race 3-7 furlongs, Purse $21,000, Maiden claiming $32,000, Cal-breds, 3-year-olds Tiz Suspicious-Races first time with Lasix in second career start; ran OK in debut considering a very poor start. Wild Till Dawn-Turns back from a two-turn mile for this; dead-late closer will pick up the pieces late. Longshot-Brandy Groom Race 4-6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $29,000, Claiming $25,000, 4-year-olds Flying Knight-Second start off an 11-month layoff; ran evenly chasing a very rapid pace, class drop should suit him nicely. Reno Hightower-Third start off a five-month hiatus; descends the claiming class to this new low level. Longshot-Heightenedawarenes Race 5-1 /4 miles (turf), Purse $58,000, Allowance, 4 and up
Killer Image-The Nakatani-Frankel team is steam; tactical speed to sit a perfect trip. Red Sea-Ran like he needed his last start, his first in six-months; suspect will be much sharper here. Longshot-Classic Sham Race 6-6 furlongs, Purse $14,000, Maiden claiming $25,000, 4 and up Montana Snow-Returns from a nine-month hiatus; been working gangbusters on dirt for his first ever soil start. Sulton's Glass-Been away more than 15 months; this field is so bad, he can win with just an okay effort. Longshot-Metropolis Man Race 7-1 mile, Purse $62,000, Optional claiming $100,000, 4 and up Bagshot-Classy veteran returns from a three-month respite; has a tendency to hang, but this isn't the strongest bunch on the vine. Koslanin-Dead late closer will hope to have some pace to close into; be afraid if Absolute Harmony gets an uncontested lead. Longshot-Absolute Harmony Race 8-6 furlongs, Purse $18,000, Maiden claiming $25,000, Fillies and mares, 4 and up Femme-The fact Eddie D. stays for a cheap claimer finale tells me something; class drop improves her chances. Amberrosa-Seconditis is not so bad with purses the way they are; a filly like this may never leave NW2L condition. Longshot-Friendly Irish Best Bet-Bagshot (Race 7) Picks/Winners/Mutuels, Yesterday-16/5/$35.80, Longshots-8/2/$15.60, Best Bet-1/0/$0 Santa Anita Totals-446/109/$729.40, Longshots-224/26/$291.40, Best Bets-26/14/$65.60 For race results, call 594-RACE
