Durango wins with late pins
Review-Journal Luke Doty and Mike Chapa knew they needed pins for Durango's wrestling team to have a chance Thursday night against Western. They got them. Doty (215 pounds) and Chapa (275) both had second-period pins in the final two matches to give Durango a 37-36 victory over the Warriors. Western led 36-25 after Mark Foster's 14-1 decision at 189. Daniel Rosequist (103) and Scott Farrington (171) also had pins for the Trailblazers. At Palo Verde, Andrew Douglas (189 pounds) and Robert Jager (215) had back-to-back pins to secure the Panthers' 44-31 victory over visiting Centennial. Jager pinned his opponent in just 34 seconds to put the match out of reach. Jon Martinez (103) and Matt Farrar (140) also had pins for the Panthers. Nick Bundra (125), Charlie Dentler (130), Ryan Bundra (160) and Vito Pasqualicchia (275) had pins for Centennial. At Silverado, the Skyhawks took advantage of six Basic forfeits to defeat the Wolves, 43-22. David Ochoa (103), Jan Calderon (171) and Weston Duschen (189) had pins for the Wolves, who won five of seven contested matches. At Cheyenne, the Desert Shields took advantage of three forfeits to beat Mojave, 43-28. Bret Zieja (135), Jesse Williams (140) and Matt Bilyeu (275) had pins for Cheyenne. Channing Jackson (152) and Geoff Carlvin (215) won by fall for Mojave. At Bonanza, Cody Chapman (103), Orbie Ottey (112), Ben Ness (119), Mike White (215) and Adam Seward (275) had pins as the Bengals beat Clark, 60-13. At Eldorado, Chase Diller (112), Jered Medina (119), Mauricio Chavez (135), Josh Medina (140), Danny Herrera (145) and Abelardo Reyes (189) recorded pins in Rancho's 55-18 win over the Sundevils. Julio Mendez (152) and Calvin Stringer (275) had pins for Eldorado. At Chaparral, Green Valley had six pins in a 63-11 victory over the Cowboys. Seth Rasmussen (140), Brett Baumgardner (112), Stuart Rasmussen (152), Eric Perlin (171), Sandor Duran (189) and John Beckum (275) had pins for the Gators.
-- GIRLS SOCCER -- Four players scored as Silverado beat visiting Basic 4-0 to move into first place in the Southeast Division at 6-0-2. Sara Leonard, Alexis Moore, Heather Tsukamoto and Abbey Mathis scored for the Skyhawks. Suzanne LaPoint earned the shutout. At Chaparral, Jennifer Adams and Katherine Soder scored one goal each to give Chaparral a 2-1 victory over Green Valley, knocking the Gators (5-1-2) to second place in the Southeast. Soder's goal, which proved to be the game winner, was assisted by freshman Cortney Sobrero. Kim Chock scored for Green Valley. At Las Vegas, five Rancho players scored in a 5-3 victory over the Wildcats. Dana Guzman, Kelly McLeod, Nancy Razzo, Dirna Verona and Jasmine Villanueva all scored for the Rams. Angelina Kelly scored twice, and Angela Pictum once for Las Vegas. At Eldorado, Brently Bridgeforth and Lacey Pictum scored in the Sundevils' 2-0 triumph over Valley. Goalie Amanda Grange saved four shots for the shutout. At Cheyenne, Hayley Jones scored in the first half to lift the Desert Shields over Palo Verde, 1-0. Shannon Roy recorded the shutout. At Bonanza, Alyce Perry scored two goals to lead the Bengals over Western, 4-0. Melissa Recchio and Christina Wish added goals for Bonanza. Goalkeeper Jeannette Perry had the shutout. At Vo-Tech, Ananda Erickson scored twice as Foothill rolled over the Roadrunners, 6-0. Nicole Bordi, Gina Franco, Martha Hudson and Savannah Spears added goals. Emily Tschanz had the shutout. At Cimarron-Memorial, Alicia Jones scored four goals as the Spartans cruised to a 13-0 victory over Mojave. Vanesha Bailey and Mariel Chandler added three goals each for Cimarron. At Clark, Elissa Partel and Erin Levin scored two goals each as Durango defeated the Chargers, 5-1. Pam Riddle added a goal for the Trailblazers, and Jessica Beale scored for Clark.
