"Rebels With a Cause," a collection of rare, historic documents from the founding days of the United States, will be presented 7 a.m.-6 p.m. Feb. 28 through March 2 at the MGM Grand Conference Center, Rooms 204-205, 4701 Koval Lane. The collection features 76 original documents, including a letter signed by Thomas Jefferson regarding three founding acts of Congress, two letters from George Washington and a letter written by John Adams. The exhibit also includes a William J. Stone vellum engraving of the Declaration of Independence, authorized by Congress in 1923, and a previously unrecorded 1787 Philadelphia printing of the U.S. Constitution by printer Robert Smith. Activities planned to acknowledge black history In celebration of Black History Month, the Las Vegas-Clark County Library District will present a variety of programs and exhibits for all ages.
The programs are free and open to the public. Highlights of the celebration include the Simba Jambalaya Dance Troupe, which will present "The Beat Goes On" at 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the West Las Vegas Library theater, 951 W. Lake Mead Blvd. Motivational speaker George Fraser, author of "Success Runs in Our Race" and "Race for Success: The Ten Best Business Opportunities for Blacks in America," will speak at 6 p.m. Feb. 14 in the West Las Vegas Library theater. Judith Anne Still, daughter of black composer William Grant Still, will present rare photographs from her father's archives in a program called "The Life and Legacy of William Grant Still" at 2 p.m. Feb. 19 in the Clark County Library theater, 1401 E. Flamingo Road, and 7 that evening in the West Las Vegas Library theater. After the lecture, the Sierra Winds will play highlights from the William Grant Still collection.
