Judicial survey needs citizen input
To the editor: The Clark County Bar Association, in conjunction with the Review-Journal, is sending out judicial evaluation questionnaires to attorneys, who are presumed to be the only group with enough day-to-day experience in local and state court, and enough training in law, to evaluate judges fairly. But Las Vegas voters should look cautiously at the survey. I have listened disdainfully to judges' rulings that violated the judicial canons by failing to provide equal rights to mothers and fathers. I have felt other mothers' and fathers' outrage and helplessness after judges and attorneys engaged in prejudicial misconduct based loosely on the "best interests of the child." I have seen firsthand the economic and emotional devastation wrought on the family unit through judges' irrational, gender-biased, self-contradictory, unsubstantiated, absurd, off-the-wall interpretations of the law.
The judicial evaluation should be included in the Best of Las Vegas, allowing input from "experts" with principle who have experienced firsthand our judicial system. Citizens who depend on the courts to resolve our disputes and protect our cherished rights should be outraged at not being included in the survey. VICTORIA GIAMPA Henderson
