The prospect of Election Day stretching into Election Month became very real Thursday as George W. Bush's lead over Al Gore in Florida's recount slipped to 229 votes and Democrats looked to the courts claiming "an injustice unparalleled in our history." The Bush campaign considered recounts in two other close-voting states. With the country transfixed on a presidential race unresolved two days after the election, the two sides escalated their rhetoric as they dug in for what could be a nasty battle.

TEAMING UP: Monorail connection envisioned
The Regional Transportation Commission is moving ahead with plans to construct a publicly funded monorail that, if built, would link with the Strip system, creating a resort corridor monorail between the MGM Grand and downtown. The public system's proposed three-mile route would follow Main Street from Sahara Avenue, where the private system will end, to the Fremont Street Experience.
