The show is scheduled to run from April 18 through June 1 in the rotunda of the Clark County Government Center, 500 S. Grand Central Parkway, said Diane Bush, cultural supervisor for Clark County Parks and Recreation's Cultural Division. In addition, an artists' reception is scheduled for 4-7 p.m. April 20. The exhibit will feature sculptures and three-dimensional pieces in ceramic, glass, silver and mixed media, Bush said. "We try to make it a varied show with, hopefully, something for everyone." The show's primary purpose is to "give people a chance to display their artwork in a venue that 5,000 people will be traveling through during the course of the exhibition," Bush said. "So it serves the community and serves the artist." Bush added the show also helps her discover new talent for other shows held by the county throughout the year. "I can find out about new artists in town," she said. "Because so many people move to town on a regular basis, this seems to be a good way to find out who's here." In January, a call for submissions went out to arts groups, galleries and colleges, Bush said. A total of 29 artists responded to the call, and each submitted slides or photos of about 10 pieces. A panel then selected the 14 artists whose work will be displayed. "It's usually between 12 and 16, because that's the most that can comfortably fit in that space," Bush said. The panel chose the artists on the basis of "high-quality craftsmanship, as well as unique artistic vision," Bush said. "It was quite broad." The government center's rotunda lends itself to such exhibits, Bush said. "People are really enthralled when they go there for the first time, and I get a lot of positive response. "People are just thrilled. They didn't expect to come across an art exhibit (there). It's appreciated by a lot of people." Viewing hours will be 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
