Deaths
Douglas Blanchard
Douglas Ernest "Shorty" Blanchard, 74, died Tuesday.
He was born Oct. 17, 1926, in Minnesota. A Navy veteran, he was an operating engineer for the Nevada Test Site, an 18-year resident of Pahrump and a former longtime resident of Las Vegas.
He is survived by his son, Timothy of Pahrump; daughters, Bernadette and Bonita, both of California; sisters, Lois Florhaug of Minnesota and Lola Brinkhaus of California; brother, Charles of Minnesota; 10 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Visitation will be one hour before services at 1 p.m. Sunday at Pahrump Family Mortuary.
Stewart Brown
Stewart William Brown, 44, died Tuesday in an automobile accident.
He was born Dec. 14, 1956, in Kansas. A pit supervisor in gaming, he was a resident of Las Vegas.
He is survived by his son, Blaine; father, William; brother, Roger; and sisters, Linda Tobin and Nancy Stokes.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at St. Viator Catholic Church. Desert Memorial Cremation & Burial Society handled arrangements.
Curtis Cramer
Curtis C. Cramer, 54, died Sunday.
He was born Oct. 25, 1946, in St. Paul, Minn. A retired Army veteran of the Vietnam War, he was a six-year resident of Las Vegas.
He is survived by his daughter, Christina Powell of Las Vegas.
Burial will be at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Hites Funeral Home handled arrangements.
Linda Dauphin
Linda Lou Dauphin, 48, died Wednesday at a Las Vegas hospital.
She was born Oct. 12, 1952, in Long Beach, Calif. A homemaker, she was a six-year resident of Las Vegas.
She is survived by her husband, George; son, Travis; daughters, Tario Guinn and Shannon; all of Las Vegas; sister, Dorinda Martin of Garden Grove, Calif.; and two grandchildren.
Services are private. Valley Memorial Cremation & Burial handled arrangements.
Edwin Dziedziejko
The Rev. Edwin Dziedziejko, 49, died Thursday.
He was born Aug. 2, 1952, in East Chicago, Ind. A priest, he was a seven-month resident of Las Vegas.
He is survived by his brother, John of Mt. Calvary, Wis.
Burial will be in Mt. Calvary. Hites Funeral Home handled arrangements.
Frank Engle
Frank Engle, 74, died Thursday at home.
He was born Oct. 20, 1926, in Abilene, Kan. A Navy veteran of World War II, he was a five-year resident of Las Vegas.
He is survived by his wife, Clara of Las Vegas; sons, David of Fallbrook, Calif., Mark of Abilene, Ted Fischer of Montpelier, Vt., David Fischer of Woodbridge, N.J., and Karl Fischer of Las Vegas; daughters, Connie Smalley, Joan and Pamela, all of Topeka, Kan., Linda Fischer of Alexandria, Va., Elizabeth Cernak of Henderson, JoAnn Ortloff of Vista, Calif., and Rachel Clark of Las Vegas; and 20 grandchildren.
Services are private. The family requests memorial donations be made to Save The Children. Neptune Society of Nevada handled arrangements.
Thomas Hardin
Thomas Hardin, 67, died July 19.
He was born Sept. 11, 1933. An Army veteran, he was a resident of Las Vegas.
Services will be at 9:20 a.m. Monday at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Bunkers Mortuary handled arrangements.
Gretchen Hood
Gretchen Lynn Hood, 32, died Tuesday.
She was born Feb. 20, 1969, in Newport Beach, Calif. A medical secretary, she was a four-year resident of Las Vegas.
She is survived by her companion, Al Marashi of Las Vegas; father, Thomas of Huntington Beach, Calif.; mother, Debra Garcia; and sister, Wendy; both of Paradise, Calif.
Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Saturday at Hites Funeral Home with graveside services at 11 a.m. Sunday at Boulder City Cemetery.
Julius Kozma
Julius A. Kozma, 85, died Thursday at a Boulder City care center.
He was born May 1, 1916, in South Bend, Ind. An Army veteran of World War II, he was a retired foreman in chemical manufacturing and a 51-year resident of Henderson.
He is survived by his daughter, Sue Varner of Las Vegas; and a grandchild.
Services are private. The family requests memorial donations be made to American Cancer Society. Nevada Funeral Service-Nevada Cremation or Burial Society handled arrangements.
Helen Leanza
Helen Leanza, 80, died Wednesday.
She was born April 30, 1921, in Waterbury, Conn. A homemaker, she was a 12-year resident of Las Vegas.
She is survived by her husband, Frank; daughter, Valerie; both of Las Vegas; sons, Robert of Edison, N.J., and Frank Jr. of Clearwater, Fla.; sister, Lucille of Ocala, Fla.; brothers, Samuel Correnti of Arizona, Armand Correnti of Bethesda, Pa., and Patsy Correnti of Atlantic City, N.J.; and two grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. today at Palm Mortuary-Henderson.
Ann Mailly
Ann Lee Mailly, 94, died Wednesday.
She was born March 10, 1907, in Princeton, Mo. A homemaker, she was a 33-year resident of Las Vegas.
She is survived by her sisters, Lora McElfish and Cora Elsey, both of Mercer, Mo.
Services are private. Davis Paradise Valley Funeral Home handled arrangements.
Norwood Mallon
Norwood E. "Woody" Mallon, 78, died Tuesday.
He was born Nov. 15, 1922, in Iowa. An Army veteran of World War II, he was a retired office manager for a railroad and an 18-year resident of Las Vegas.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia; son, James of Slater, Iowa; daughter, Jan Blackburn of Bremerton, Wash.; brothers, Merlyn of Watseka, Ill., and Orvis of Pekin, Ill.; sister, Maxine Bullard of Omaha, Neb.; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Griffith United Methodist Church. The family requests memorial donations be made to the church. Desert Memorial Cremation & Burial Society handled arrangements.
Roy Mantle
Roy Dale Mantle, 65, died Monday.
He was born Feb. 22, 1936, in Cardin, Okla. A brother of the late New York Yankees center fielder Mickey Mantle, he was a floorman in a hotel-casino and a 38-year resident of Las Vegas.
He is survived by his wife, Maryadelia of Las Vegas; daughters, Kathy Jo King and DeAnne McIntosh, both of Tulsa, Okla.; sister, Barbara of Oklahoma City; brothers, Ray of Las Vegas and Butch of Oklahoma City; and three grandchildren.
Burial will be at Bunkers Eden Vale Memorial Park. The family requests memorial donations be made to the animal rescue organization DELTA, P.O. Box 9, Glendale, Calif., 91209, Attention: Leo Grillo. Bunkers Mortuary handled arrangements.
Hazel Peoples
Hazel Cecilia Peoples, 86, died Sunday at a Las Vegas hospital.
She was born Dec. 2, 1914, in Illinois. The owner of a furniture store, she was an 11-month resident of Las Vegas.
She is survived by her husband, Rex; daughter, Judy Kass; and three grandchildren.

Joel Perley
Joel David Perley, 44, died Sunday.
He was born Sept. 27, 1956, in California. An Army veteran, he was an electrician in construction and a 12-year resident of Las Vegas.
He is survived by his son, Josh; and daughter, Amie Drake; both of Riverside, Calif.
Burial will be in Riverside. Hites Funeral Home handled arrangements.
Joan Peterson
Joan Helen Peterson, 63, died Saturday at a Las Vegas hospital.
She was born May 19, 1938, in Pennsylvania. A data entry clerk, she was a seven-year resident of Las Vegas.
She is survived by her sons, James and Jerry; daughter, Kathy Fryman; mother, Hazel Enyeart; brothers, Terry Enyeart and Jack Enyeart; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Services are private. Desert Memorial Cremation & Burial Society handled arrangements.
J. Alfred Rippetoe
J. Alfred Rippetoe, 74, died Saturday.
He was born March 18, 1927, in Missouri. An Army veteran, he was a sales manager in the automotive industry and a seven-year resident of Las Vegas.
He is survived by his wife, Fleta; daughters, Katy Chittick and Joy Erickson; and four grandchildren.
Services are private. Desert Memorial Cremation & Burial Society handled arrangements.
Richard Sironen
Richard E. "Dick" Sironen, 72, died Tuesday in Grand Rapids, Mich.
Born in Grand Rapids, he was a retired sheet metal worker and a former longtime resident of Las Vegas.
Immediate family survivors include his sons, Gary, Gordon and Gene, all of Las Vegas.
Services will be held Saturday in Grand Rapids under the direction of Heritage Funeral Service. The family requests memorial donations be made to American Cancer Society or St. Luke's Lutheran Church of Grand Rapids.
Hugh Skelly
Hugh Lawrence Skelly, 82, died Wednesday at Nathan Adelson Hospice.
He was born Sept. 14, 1918, in Rochester, N.Y. A Marine Corps and Navy veteran who served during World War II, he was a retired general manager in electronics manufacturing, a 13-year resident of Henderson and a member of Rotary Club.
He is survived by his wife, Grace of Henderson; sons, Hugh Jr. of Edwardsville, Ill., Kevin of Santa Fe, N.M., and T.J. of Atlanta; daughters, Martha Remis of Chicago, Kathleen of Syracuse, N.Y., Suzanne McCurdy of Colville, Wash., and Patricia of Washburn, Wis.; stepson, Jon Tan of Taipei, Taiwan; 16 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 3 p.m. until services at 5 p.m. today at Palm Mortuary-Eastern. Burial is private. The family requests memorial donations be made to the hospice.
Edward Slavin
Edward Robert Slavin, 95, died Tuesday.
He was born Jan. 5, 1906, in La Cananea, Sonora, Mexico. A 93-year resident of Tonopah, he was a postmaster; a mine foreman and certified mine safety officer; a member of the Tonopah volunteer fire department, Elks Lodge 1062, Retired National and Nevada Postmasters and National Jeep Association; and a former Nye County commissioner.
He is survived by his daughter, Lucille Clark; brother, Eugene; both of Reno; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Tonopah, followed by a celebration of life at 2:30 p.m. at the Tonopah Fire Station No. 2. Burial will be at Tonopah Cemetery. The family requests memorial donations be made to Central Nevada Historical Society, Box 326, Tonopah, 89049. Gunter Funeral Home, Tonopah, handled arrangements.
James Smith II
James S. Smith II, 49, died July 28.
He was born Aug. 9, 1951, in California. A vinyl installer, he was a five-year resident of Las Vegas.
He is survived by his son, James III; and brothers, Chris, Richard, Don, Jay and Frankie.

Michael Todd
Michael L. Todd, 41, died Wednesday.
He was born March 13, 1960, in Georgia. A real estate salesman, he was a resident of Las Vegas.
He is survived by his mother, Gail Berger of Langley, S.C.

Mariah Tomlin
Mariah Tomlin, 91, died July 18.
She was born Oct. 17, 1909, and was a resident of Las Vegas.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Woodlawn Cemetery. Bunkers Mortuary handled arrangements.
Patricia Tracy
Patricia H. Tracy, 78, died Tuesday at a local care center.
She was born May 28, 1923, in Flushing, N.Y. A travel agent, she was a 25-year resident of Las Vegas and a member of Las Vegas Miniatures Club.
She is survived by her daughters, Christine Wall and Deborah Berger, both of Las Vegas, and Susan Hardy of Lake Stevens, Wash.; six grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at St. Joseph Husband of Mary Catholic Church. Burial will be in Los Angeles. Davis Funeral Home handled arrangements.
Samuel Trunzo
Samuel Trunzo, 50, died Tuesday.
He was born Feb. 12, 1951, in Pennsylvania. A Marine Corps veteran, he was a human resources manager and a resident of Las Vegas.

Martin Williams
Martin Franklin "Smokey" Williams, 76, died Thursday.
He was born Aug. 26, 1924, in Golden Gate, Ill. An Army and Navy veteran who served during World War II, he was a truck driver for Teamsters and a 38-year resident of Las Vegas.
He is survived by his wife, Rosalie of Las Vegas; daughters, Judy Branson of Sidney, Ill., Marsha Espinoza of Covina, Calif., and Linda Steele of Las Vegas; sister, Ona Rice of Champaign, Ill.; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from noon until services at 2 p.m. Sunday at Davis Paradise Valley Funeral Home. Burial is private.
