Deaths



Zendell Hale

Zendell M. Hale, 85, died Friday.

He was born Dec. 1, 1915, in Groveland, Idaho. An Army veteran, he was a retired accountant for an insurance company, a member of the Spring Mountain Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and an 11-year resident of Las Vegas.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Lettie of Las Vegas; sons, Wayne of Pocatello, Idaho, and Blair of Las Vegas; daughters, Ann Marie Downey of Upland, Calif., and Jeannine Baker of Norman, Okla.; 19 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Bunkers Mortuary. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Spring Mountain Ward Chapel of the LDS Church. Burial will be held in Menan, Idaho.

Betty Hansen

Betty J. Hansen, 78, died Sunday in Nathan Adelson Hospice.

She was born Nov. 1, 1922, in Racine, Wis. A homemaker, she was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and a six-year resident of Las Vegas.

She is survived by her daughters, Kyle Zemp and Kristen, both of Las Vegas; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Palm Mortuary-Eastern.

Lawrence Haygood

Lawrence "Larry" Haygood, 90, died Friday in a Las Vegas hospital.

He was born Aug. 6, 1910, in Cheyenne, Wyo. A retired locomotive engineer, he was past master of the Vegas Masonic Lodge No. 32 F&AM, member of York Rite, Scottish Rite, Challenger Club, First United Methodist Church, past member of Zelzah Shrine and a 63-year resident of Las Vegas.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Alice; daughter, Karenlee Gilbert; son, Bob, all of Las Vegas; brother, Carroll of Hawaii; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Palm Mortuary-Downtown where services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will follow at Palm Memorial Park-Downtown. The family requests memorial donations be made to Shriner's Childrens Hospital for burn victims or the First United Methodist Church.

Gina Holliday

Gina Holliday, 20, died Thursday.

She was born Aug. 31, 1980, was a homemaker and a lifetime resident of Henderson.

She is survived by her sons, Edward and Xavier, both of Henderson; mother, Cheryl Holliday-Redmon of Gresham, Ore.; father, Robert Redmon of Las Vegas; sisters, Genevia of Henderson and Latasha McDaniel of Las Vegas; brother, Greg of Las Vegas; and grandmother, Geraldine of Henderson.

Services are private. Palm Mortuary-Eastern handled the arrangements.

Gerald May

Gerald L. May, 63, died Sunday in a Las Vegas hospital.

He was born June 30, 1937, in Findlay, Ohio. A retired maintenance mechanic in aircraft manufacturing, he was a seven-year resident of Las Vegas.

He is survived by his wife, Carol of Las Vegas; daughter, Elizabeth Baldivia; and son, Jerry, both of Burbank, Calif.; and a grandchild.

Memorial services will be held in California. Palm Mortuary-Downtown handled the arrangements. The family requests memorial donations be made to the Leukemia Foundation.

Matthew Miller

Matthew Miller, 84, died Wednesday in a local hospital.

He was born Jan. 21, 1917, in Arkansas. A Navy veteran, he was a nine-year resident of Las Vegas.

He is survived by his wife, Phyllis of Las Vegas; sons, Mathel of Rowlett, Texas, William Nutting Jr. of Los Angeles, Walter Nutting and Perry, both of Oakland, Calif.; daughters, Grace Fields of Las Vegas, Lynette Nutting and Naomi Nutting, both of Oakland, Calif.; sisters, Louise Harris of Las Vegas and Susan Giggins of Seattle; 11 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Services will be held in Oakland, Calif. Davis Funeral Home handled the arrangements.

Robert Monica

Robert Andrew Monica, 52, died Thursday in Warm Springs.

He was born March 28, 1948, in Santa Monica, Calif. A Marine Corps veteran of the Vietnam War, he received the Bronze Star, Navy Cross and Purple Heart, was North American light heavyweight champion for the Marine Corps, a member of Young Republicans and the Boys and Girls Club of America and a 15-year resident of Las Vegas.

He is survived by his daughter, Sophia of Las Vegas; sisters, Theresa Ludtke of Addy, Wash., Josephine Stewart of San Gabriel, Calif., Monica McKeever of Long Beach, Calif. and Mary of Las Vegas; and brothers, Matteo III of Palm Desert, Calif., Gregory of Henderson, Corbett of Portland, Ore., Conrad of Addy, John of New York City, Martin of Simi Valley, Calif. and Christopher of Marietta, Calif.

Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. today at American Burial & Cremation Services.

Charles Reid

Charles Reid, 87, died Sunday in Nathan Adelson Hospice.

He was born Feb. 4, 1914, in Lakewood, Ohio. A retired programer in manufacturing, he was a 23-year resident of Las Vegas.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Alice of Las Vegas; daughter, Penny Vernier; sons, Stuart, both of Henderson, Douglass of Crossville, Tenn. and Mark of Cornelia, Ga.; and 11 grandchildren.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Palm Mortuary-Eastern. The family requests memorial donations be made to Nathan Adelson Hospice.

Kiara Singer

Kiara Meena Singer, an infant born Feb. 2, died Friday in a Las Vegas hospital.

She is survived by her mother, Carol Algernon; father, Bryan; grandparents, Nelson and Ameena Domacasse; and grandmother, Ronda Klessig-Singer, all of Las Vegas.

Memorial services will be at 6 p.m. Thursday at Palm Mortuary-Cheyenne.

Elmer Smith

Elmer H. Smith, 76, died Jan. 5.

He was born Sept. 13, 1924. An Army veteran, he was a Las Vegas resident.

Burial will be held in Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Bunkers Mortuary handled the arrangements.

Julia Stamer

Julia "Dolly" Mary Stamer, 83, died Friday.

She was born Sept. 10, 1917, in Chicago. A switchboard operator for a telephone company, she was a member of Boulder City Community Club, Circle 8 Square Dancers Club and a 24-year resident of Boulder City.

She is survived by her daughter, Lynn Lakers of Boulder City; son, Raymond of Green Bay, Wis.; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Rosary recital will be at 6 p.m. Tuesday at St. Andrew's Catholic Church where Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will follow at Palm Mausoleum in Boulder City.

Barbara Wildemann

Barbara L. Wildemann, 48, died Saturday.

She was born Jan. 9, 1953, in Butte, Mont. An Air Force veteran, she was an assistant comptroller in gaming and a 15-year resident of Las Vegas.

She is survived by her mother, Shirley Dougherty; sisters, Suzanne French, Pamela Dougherty and Allison Marshall; and brothers, Tim Dougherty, Michael Dougherty, Pat Dougherty, all of Phoenix, and Terry Dougherty of Mayer, Ariz.

Affordable Cremation & Burial Service handled the arrangements. The family requests memorial donations be made to Nathan Adelson Hospice.
