Deaths



Jean Arnquist

Jean C. Arnquist, 85, died Tuesday at a local hospice.

She was born March 8, 1916, in Kalamazoo, Mich. A retired clothing store manager, she was a 29-year resident of Las Vegas.

She is survived by her husband, Marshall of Las Vegas; daughters, Jeanne Sealove of Boulder City and Sally Todoran of Mission Viejo, Calif.; son, Joseph Auerbach of Lake Forest, Calif.; stepdaughter, Carol See of Kansas City, Mo.; stepson, Mark of Everett, Wash.; 17 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Affordable Cremation & Burial Service handled arrangements.

Dominick Barone

Dominick S. Barone, 78, died Tuesday.

He was born Nov. 19, 1922, in Fairview, N.J. An Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, he was a clerk typist for the school district, an 11-year resident of Las Vegas and a volunteer entertainer for rest homes.

He is survived by his wife, Carmela; son, Gregory; both of Las Vegas; and sister, Marie Klahre of Cliffside, N.J.

Visitation will be from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday at Bunkers Mortuary. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Christopher Catholic Church followed by burial at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery.

Dorothy Duhrkopp

Dorothy Duhrkopp, 80, died Monday at a Las Vegas hospital.

She was born Feb. 11, 1921, in New York. A retired cashier in a casino, she was a 20-year resident of Las Vegas.

She is survived by her sons, Joseph Racaniello of Yorba Linda, Calif., and Robert Racaniello of Florida; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Palm Mortuary-Jones handled arrangements.

Sharon Edwards

Sharon Denise Edwards, 30, died Sunday at a local hospital.

She was born July 6, 1971, in Las Vegas and was a lifetime resident.

She is survived by her parents, Christine and Willie; brother, Willie III; and sisters, Vickie and Crystal; all of Las Vegas.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to noon Friday at American Burial & Cremation Services. Services are private.

Robert Gray

Robert Frederick Gray, 39, died Monday.

He was born Dec. 5, 1961, in Anchorage, Alaska. A travel agent, he was a 15-year resident of Las Vegas.

Services are private. Bunkers Mortuary handled arrangements.

Debra Lamas

Debra Lamas, 39, died Monday.

She was born Aug. 1, 1962, in North Carolina. A worker in child birth services, she was a two-year resident of Las Vegas.

She is survived by her husband, Rudolpho of Las Vegas; daughters, Theresa Runnels of Tampa, Fla., Sierra Runnels and Sophia Runnels, both of Seattle, and Zoe Mooney of Phoenix; sons, Miles Whiteside of Seattle and Ian Mooney of Phoenix; and two grandchildren.

Visitation will be one hour before services at 4 p.m. Sunday at Palm Mortuary-Eastern.

Arthur Mosca

Arthur Michael Mosca, 57, died Sept. 12 at a Las Vegas hospital.

He was born Sept. 22, 1943, in Massachusetts. A mover, he was a 15-year resident of Las Vegas.

He is survived by his wife, Agnas; brothers, Angelo and Paul; and sisters, Carol Roberge and Rebecca McAndrews.

Desert Memorial Cremation & Burial Society handled arrangements.

Jose Romasanta

Jose V. Romasanta, 74, died Monday at a Las Vegas hospital.

He was born Nov. 7, 1926, in the Philippines. A retired civil engineer and hydrologist in agriculture, he was a seven-year resident of North Las Vegas and a volunteer at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church.

He is survived by his wife, Aida; sons, Ricardo and Father Reynaldo; all of Manila, Philippines; daughters, Sol Allen of Toronto, Maria McCaffery of Staten Island, N.Y., and Maria Duggan of North Las Vegas; brother, Tony of Manila; seven grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Palm Mortuary-Cheyenne handled arrangements.

Ethel Schmidt

Ethel Estelle Schmidt, 79, died Monday at home.

She was born Nov. 24, 1921, in Los Angeles. A psychologist, she was a six-year resident of Las Vegas.

She is survived by her husband, George of Las Vegas; son, Eric of Glenwood Springs, Colo.; and daughter, Lori of Carbondale, Colo.

Services are private. Valley Memorial Cremation & Burial handled arrangements.

Marshall Smith

Marshall Smith, 81, died Monday at a Las Vegas hospital.

He was born Nov. 6, 1919, in San Diego. A Navy veteran of World War II, he was a retired police officer and a two-year resident of Las Vegas.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Marilyn; daughter, Sharon Thielman; both of Las Vegas; son, Brian of California; brother, Lawrence; sister, Eva Mathews; both of Lancaster, Calif.; two grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Palm Mortuary-Eastern with graveside services at 9:20 a.m. Monday at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery.

Mildred Sparks

Mildred D. "Grammie" Sparks, 91, died Monday.

She was born Dec. 24, 1909, in Fairview, Ill. A retired floor supervisor for a department store, she was a 52-year resident of Las Vegas.

She is survived by her daughters, Louetta Martin of Dolan Springs, Ariz., and Arlene Bashaw of Las Vegas; son, Gerald of Dolan Springs; 14 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Bunkers Mortuary, where services will be at 9 a.m. Monday. Burial will follow at Bunkers Memory Gardens Memorial Park. The family requests memorial donations be made to Nathan Adelson Hospice.

Bert Thorn Jr.

Bert P. Thorn Jr., 91, died Monday at a local care center.

He was born Sept. 11, 1910, in Lincoln, Neb. A retired automotive mechanic, he was a 38-year resident of Las Vegas.

He is survived by his sons, John of Moses Lake, Wash., and Charles of Las Vegas; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Palm Valley View Memorial Park. Palm Mortuary-Jones handled arrangements.

Donna Vanidestine

Donna Marie Vanidestine, 41, died Friday.

She was born Aug. 30, 1960, in Chicago. A cashier in retail sales, she was an 18-year resident of Las Vegas.

Desert Memorial Cremation & Burial Society handled arrangements.

Nancy Waddell

Nancy Waddell, 76, died Saturday.

She was born Dec. 1, 1924, in Winchester, Mass. A retired draftsman for EG&G, she was a 37-year resident of Las Vegas.

She is survived by her husband, Freeman; son, Stephen; both of Las Vegas; daughters, Diane Moroski of San Luis Obispo, Calif., and Sandy Williams of Idaho Falls, Idaho; and seven grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at Palm Mortuary-Cheyenne with a memorial service at 1 p.m. at Christ Episcopal Church. The family requests memorial donations be made to Alzheimer's Association

Nancy Wilder

Nancy Wilder, 65, died Tuesday at a Las Vegas hospital.

She was born Sept. 16, 1936, in Cambridge, Mass. An escrow officer in real estate, she was a 42-year resident of Henderson.

She is survived by her husband, Lee of Henderson; sons, Mark of Cedar City, Utah, and David of Henderson; sister, Sally Herrlinger of Cincinnati; and four grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. with services at 3 p.m. Saturday at Palm Mortuary Eastern. Burial is private. The family requests memorial donations be made to Noah's Ark Animal Rescue or a charity of choice.
