CARSON CITY -- The number of registered Nevada voters has climbed by 13,744 since the Oct. 5 close of registration for the 2002 general election, Secretary of State Dean Heller said Friday.
While registration is up, the total of 883,545 is just 52 percent of the state's nearly 1.7 million people who are old enough to vote.
Heller said the latest statewide registration total includes 368,365 Republicans, 360,130 Democrats, 128,605 nonpartisans, 16,283 Independent Americans, and 5,008 Libertarians.
Also included in the total are 2,441 Greens, 775 Natural Laws, 613 Reform Party and 1,325 "other" voters.
A breakdown shows there are 112,277 Democrats and 78,603 Republicans in the state's 1st Congressional District, represented by Democrat Shelley Berkley.
There are 158,690 Republicans and 117,712 Democrats in the 2nd District, represented by Republican Jim Gibbons; and there are 131,017 Republicans and 130,120 Democrats in the state's new 3rd District, held by Republican Rep.-elect Jon Porter.
