American Indians celebrated at museum

Flintknapping, atlatl and spear-throwing demonstrations, American Indian beadwork and refreshments based on American Indian recipes highlight opening-day festivities for the Lost City Museum's new "Early Man in Southern Nevada" exhibit Nov. 9. Museum admission is free for the opening-day activities.

The exhibit is expected to remain open at least a year and covers the earliest American Indian occupations of Southern Nevada from the Paleo through the Archaic and Basketmaker periods. Exhibit highlights include points and lithic tools dating from the Paleo/Archaic period, and an interactive timeline exhibit.

The Lost City Museum is open daily 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Regular admission charge is a $2 fee for adults 18 and and older. Children and members enter free. The museum is in Overton on State Route 169 off Interstate 15, exit 93, or via Lake Mead or the Valley of Fire.
