PLAYER'S EDGE: Hit a jackpot at the Plaza, get free groceries

Just in time to stock your larder for the holidays, the Plaza is bringing back their very popular Holiday Gift Card giveaway. Beginning Monday, all No. 1 Main Club members hitting a $200 jackpot on slots, video poker or live keno, or a $500 bingo win, will receive two $10 Smith's Grocery Gift Cards. Players hitting a $500 slot or video poker jackpot will receive five $10 cards and anyone lucky enough to get a $1,000 slot or video poker hit gets ten $10 cards - which translates into $100 in free groceries (or anything else sold at Smith's).

Because these cards are valid at eight other grocery chains across the country, including Kroger, Fry's, Fred Meyer and Ralph's, they also make a great stocking-stuffer as well. For those of you who prefer cash, you can sell your cards back to the Plaza at $5 per card. The Holiday Gift Card Giveaway runs through Dec. 19.

Every Sunday in December, all Silverton Players Club members earning 3,000 points in one day ($3,000 coin-in) will receive a $20 gift certificate to the Galleria at Sunset Mall, Belz Factory Outlet World, Smith's, Wal-Mart, Target or Home Depot. Members do not have to redeem their points, but there is a maximum of two certificates per member per Sunday.

The Palms is offering free play, the equivalent of cashback, in the casino's High Limit Slot Salon. Club Palms members will have the option of receiving $1 of free play for every $400 coin-in on slots (.25 percent) and $800 coin-in on video poker (.125 percent) in lieu of the comp dollars they would normally earn. Players must redeem at least $100, but cannot redeem more than $5,000 of free play per day. This free play option is only in effect for points earned after Nov. 21 in the High Limit Slot Salon and on multiple-point days, the amount of free play received will not be increased.

This program is good for both the Palms and the player. Management saves on comp dollars (which frequently cost the casino more than their equivalent in cash) and those high-end players who have earned more comps than they know what to do with now have a nice alternative. According to Palms management, this high-limit slot promotion is ongoing under further notice.

The Chicken is leaving the building: After defeating thousands of human players at tic-tac-toe (and losing only twice) the Tropicana's tic-tac-toe playing chicken will be moving on to the Ramada Express in Laughlin on Dec. 8.
