Chili reigns supreme at benefit cook-off
The first Best Nevada Firehouse Challenge is from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 26 in parking lot D at the Fiesta Henderson, 777 W. Lake Mead Drive, to benefit Project MOVe.
The event features chili cook-off teams from fire departments throughout Nevada competing for the bragging rights of having the best firehouse chili, as voted by the general public attending the cook-off, and International Chili Society cooks participating in a sanctioned district chili cook-off.
In addition to the Nevada Firehouse Chili Challenge and International Chili Society-sanctioned District Chili Cook-Off, a community fair will feature exhibits and an information table of local community organizations and support groups. There also is going to be a high school cheerleader competition, Ms. Chili Pepper and Mr. Hot Sauce contests with cash and prizes for the winners, along with a car show provided by the Mustang Club of Las Vegas.
All proceeds of this special event will benefit Project MOVe. Project MOVe is raising money to purchase, equip, staff and operate Nevada's first medical outreach vehicles providing free and low-cost health and wellness services to people of all ages throughout Nevada.
The custom-built MOVe clinics will not only be providing health and wellness screenings and services, but also will be available in emergency situations to provide on-site first aid and basic medical care whenever needed.
