FOOTBALL: Ready for Kickoff

Local bars offer giveaways and food and drink specials to draw NFL fans

OK, people, we have only a few days left to prepare for the opening of the NFL's 2002 season.

But don't worry. We've done some scouting and we've come up with 68 bars in the Las Vegas Valley that'll be catering to fans of specific NFL teams.

More bars are coming on board each year, it seems. Last year, we had 60, which was up nine from the year before that.

Must be the demise of the XFL, we reckon.

Anyway, leading this year's pack is the Chicago Bears, with nine local bars playing host to the Windy City warriors.

On the other hand, the spanking new Houston Texans didn't score at all this year, although it'll be easy to see games of that other Lone Star State team.

Other teams not represented on this list include the Arizona Cardinals, Atlanta Falcons, Baltimore Ravens, Carolina Panthers, Cincinnati Bengals, Cleveland Browns, Indianapolis Colts, Jacksonville Jaguars, Kansas City Chiefs, New Orleans Saints, Philadelphia Eagles, Seattle Seahawks, Tennessee Titans and Washington Redskins.

Remember, though: That doesn't mean the team doesn't have bars in town. It just means they didn't call us -- or call us in time -- to let us know.

Anyway, it's gonna be a long season, team. So, buckle down, pace yourself and let the games begin.

WHERE TO GO

Buffalo Bills

The Big Inning Sports Pub, 7777 W. Sahara Ave., 255-8708. Food specials during Bills games include a large pizza and a bucket of wings for $19.99. Drink specials during Bills games include 23-ounce Miller Lite and Miller Genuine Draft served in a commemorative Bills glass for $5, with 50-cent refills throughout the season after that; and Peroni for $1.50 a bottle.
