Coalition outlines objectives
Southern Nevada's home-construction industry has undertaken grass-roots efforts to rectify problems stemming from construction defects, including the unavailability and skyrocketing cost of liability insurance and excessive litigation, an industry representative said Thursday. Steve Hill, chairman of the Coalition for Fairness in Construction, said the industry needs to rebuild its relationship with homeowners and come together as one voice in Carson City for next year's Legislature.

GAMING REGULATION: Bingo scandal spurs device scrutiny
An electronic bingo scandal believed to have victimized thousands of gamblers at several Las Vegas area casino bingo halls has prompted Nevada gaming regulators to begin checking other types of casino equipment for vulnerability to similar schemes, Gaming Control Board Chairman Dennis Neilander said Thursday. Neilander said before the bingo scandal, the control board didn't believe that equipment like GameTech International's card minders could be used to cheat. But the realization that they could be tampered with has prompted a thorough review of other gaming-related equipment.
