MISSING PRIVATE PLANE
Civil Air Patrol to resume search today
Members of Nevada's Civil Air Patrol this morning are expected to resume a search for a private plane that dropped off radar Sunday morning near Tonopah.
A crew of about 21 people Monday morning began searching for a downed plane that rescuers believe contained a man and his wife traveling from Tucson, Ariz., to Eugene, Ore., said Major Charles McCarthy of the Nevada Wing, Civil Air Patrol.
The plane was last seen on radar at about 10:55 a.m. Sunday about 11 miles northeast of Tonopah.
The search Monday included two planes from the North Las Vegas Airport, one from the Henderson Airport and one from Reno.
Also, the Nye County sheriff's office dispatched a ground crew to search the area where it is believed the plane went down, McCarthy said.
Rescue planes from Southern and Northern Nevada today are expected to search the area before meeting in Tonopah to organize afternoon searches, McCarthy said.
