Deaths




Richard Betke

Richard L. Betke, 78, died Sunday in a Henderson hospital.

He was born Oct. 18, 1924, in Detroit. An Air Force veteran who served during World War II, he was a retired industrial engineer in the aerospace industry, a substitute teacher for the Clark County School District and a four-year resident of Henderson.

He is survived by his wife, Carol of Henderson; stepdaughter, Kristine Hoder; stepsons, Dennis Nuener, Glenn Nuener, Craig Nuener and Jeffrey Nuener; sister, Doris Schulz; all of Michigan; 15 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

The family requests memorial donations be made to the American Lung Association or a charity of choice. Palm Mortuary-Henderson handled arrangements.

Louis Casey

Louis B. Casey, 85, died Sunday in a Las Vegas hospital.

He was born June 4, 1917, in Keota, Okla. A Navy veteran of World War II, he was a retired schoolteacher, a member of the John Birch Society and Senior Friends, and a 39-year resident of Las Vegas.

He is survived by his wife, Olive of Las Vegas; and brother, James of Chula Vista, Calif.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at Palm Mortuary-Downtown followed by graveside services at noon at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery.

Isiah Chester Sr.

The Rev. Isiah Chester Sr., 95, died Monday.

He was born Sept. 2, 1907, in Greenville, Miss. A retired head custodian for a dairy, he was a 58-year resident of Las Vegas, an associate of The House of Prayer and a member of Greater St. John Missionary Baptist Church and Masonic Lodge.

He is survived by his sons, Larry of Las Vegas, Isiah Jr. of Chicago and Thomas Brown of St. Louis; daughter, Doris of Las Vegas; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Thursday at Bunkers Mortuary with services at 1 p.m. Friday at Greater Carver Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Bunkers Eden Vale Memorial Park.

Eileen Cohen

Eileen Judith Cohen, 72, died Friday.

She was born Aug. 15, 1930, in Chicago. A retired office manager, she was a six-year resident of Las Vegas.

She is survived by her daughters, Jackie of San Francisco and April Costanza of Las Vegas; mother, Helen of San Francisco; sisters, Sondra Markim of New York City, Vivien Bronshvag of Kentfield, Calif., and Dorothy Sharlin of Highland Park, Ill; and a granddaughter.

Memorial services will be at 4 p.m. Sunday at Temple Beth Am. The family requests memorial donations be made to the American Lung Association. Neptune Society of Nevada handled arrangements.

Samuel Cohen

Samuel Elijah Cohen, 37, died Sunday.

He was born April 14, 1965, in Connecticut. An electrician in construction, he was a resident of Las Vegas.

He is survived by his parents, Marlis and Hyman, both of New London, Conn.; and brother, Bernard of Reno.

Burial will be in Connecticut. Hites Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Michael Dades

Michael T. Dades, 74, died Sunday at Nathan Adelson Hospice.

He was born Nov. 10, 1928, in Eastman, Ga. A Navy pilot who served during World War II, he was a retired executive for a casino and a 50-year resident of Las Vegas.

He is survived by his wife, Karen; brother, John; and sister, Mary Ann Jones; all of Las Vegas.

Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church. The family requests memorial donations be made to a charity of choice. Palm Mortuary-Cheyenne handled arrangements.

Milton Deisch

Milton Kenneth Deisch, 69, died Sunday.

He was born Feb. 23, 1934, in South Dakota. A retired Army veteran of the Korean War, he was a two-year resident of Las Vegas.

He is survived by his brother, the Rev. Ray of Gregory, S.D.

Burial will be in South Dakota. Hites Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Charles Eckford Jr.

Charles Patrick Eckford Jr., 33, died Friday.

He was born Oct. 24, 1969, in California. An installer in the communications industry, he was a five-year resident of Las Vegas.

He is survived by his parents, Jeanette and Charles Sr., both of Hermosa Beach, Calif.

Burial will be in California. Hites Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Walter Edwards

Walter Edwards, 82, died Jan. 29.

He was born Feb. 24, 1920, in New York. A Coast Guard veteran who served during World War II, he was a sales associate and a resident of Las Vegas.

He is survived by his brother, Joe of Connecticut.

Graveside services were held Monday at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Hites Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Raymond Fitzgerald

Raymond D. Fitzgerald, 72, died Sunday.

He was born Jan. 7, 1931, in Michigan. A retired bartender and landscaper, he was a 40-year resident of Las Vegas.

He is survived by his wife, Constance of Las Vegas; sons, Raymond of Arizona, Steven of Seattle and Paul of Las Vegas; daughters, Suzanne Hall of Las Vegas and Joann Serracino of Rye, Colo.; brother, Donald Rapelje of Michigan; sister, Sandra Rapelje of Connecticut; 14 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until services at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Davis Paradise Valley Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Paradise Memorial Gardens.

Miguel Gamboa

Miguel "Mike" Gamboa, 74, died Saturday at Nathan Adelson Hospice-West.

He was born Sept. 29, 1928, in Mesilla, N.M. A Marine Corps veteran of World War II, he was a retired investigator in county government and a 31-year resident of Las Vegas.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia; sons, Steve and Jay; all of Las Vegas; daughter, Gayla Ortega; stepdaughter, Debbie Sanchez; both of Las Cruces, N.M.; brothers, Abran and Solomon, both of Las Vegas; 14 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. with a rosary at 6 p.m. today at Palm Mortuary-Jones. Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Husband of Mary Catholic Church followed by burial at Palm Valley View Memorial Park.

Fidel Guzman

Fidel Manuel Guzman, 73, died Sunday.

He was born Nov. 17, 1929, in Havana. A dealer for a hotel-casino, he was a 41-year resident of Las Vegas.

He is survived by his wife, Lazara; daughters, Ann Morejon and Mercy; all of Las Vegas; and three grandchildren.

Visitation will be from noon to 7 p.m. today at Bunkers Mortuary. Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Anne's Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Bunkers Eden Vale Memorial Park.

Homer Hansen

Homer K. Hansen, 80, died Sunday at his home in St. George, Utah.

He was born May 6, 1922, in Saint Ansgar, Iowa. A retired major general who served in the Army Air Corps and the Air Force in World War II, the Korean War and Vietnam War, he was a former resident of Las Vegas, a retired president of a savings and loan, and a property developer.

He is survived by his wife, Sally of St. George; daughters, Lynn of Las Vegas, Margie Mason of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Elizabeth McBride of St. George; son, Michael; stepson, James McDermott; both of Las Vegas; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Services will be held Wednesday in St. George under the direction of Metcalf Mortuary.

Antonia Hernandez

Antonia Hernandez, 74, died Saturday.

She was born Oct. 17, 1928, in Puruandireo Michoacan, Mexico. A homemaker, she was a seven-year resident of Las Vegas.

She is survived by her daughters, Guadalupe Saldana of Las Vegas and Yolanda Rodriguez of Vista, Calif.; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Palm Mortuary-Jones. Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at St. Christopher Catholic Church followed by burial at Palm Memorial Park-Northwest.

Michael Hunt

Michael LaMarr Hunt, 21, died Feb. 19 in a Las Vegas hospital.

He was born Jan. 12, 1982, in California. A chef in a restaurant, he was a seven-month resident of North Las Vegas.

He is survived by his father and stepmother, Barry and Earnestine, both of Litchfield Park, Ariz.; mother and stepfather, Pamela Buskey-Smith and Mitchell Smith, both of North Las Vegas; brothers, Barry Jr. of Arizona; and sisters, Kakoiya of Las Vegas, Tajonneea of California, and Dilisha and Krystall, both of North Las Vegas.

Visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Garden Memorial Funeral Home with services at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Second Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Palm Memorial Park-Northwest.

Gabriella Imbriani

Gabriella Imbriani, 86, died Saturday.

She was born Feb. 11, 1917, in Brooklyn, N.Y. A homemaker, she was a six-year resident of Henderson.

She is survived by her daughter, Roseanne Scarlino of Staten Island, N.Y.; sons, Joseph Jr. of Boston and Jon of Henderson; sister, Phyllis Fiorito of Las Vegas; brother, Ralph Avallone of Florida; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Peter's Catholic Church. The family requests memorial donations be made to New Hope Hospice. Palm Mortuary-Eastern handled arrangements.

Thomas Jacoby

Thomas E. Jacoby, 60, died Sunday in a Las Vegas hospital.

He was born March 9, 1942, in Los Angeles. An Army veteran of the Vietnam War, he was a manager for a bar and restaurant and a 30-year resident of North Las Vegas.

He is survived by his wife, Maureen of North Las Vegas; and sister, Sharon Nunez of Glendora, Calif.

Memorial services will be at 5 p.m. Thursday at Palm Mortuary-Cheyenne.

John Jensen

John E. Jensen, 79, died Thursday.

He was born May 11, 1923, in Yermo, Calif. An Army veteran of World War II, he was a retired worker for a railroad, a retired meter repairman in city government and a 13-year resident of Las Vegas.

He is survived by his son, John; daughter, Mildred Hare; both of Victorville, Calif.; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Palm Mortuary-Eastern with graveside services at 2 p.m. Thursday at Palm Valley View Memorial Park. The family requests memorial donations be made to the American Cancer Society.

William Krokus

William J. Krokus, 70, died Friday.

He was born Oct. 29, 1932, in Austin, Minn. A retired grocery clerk, he was a 16-year resident of Henderson.

He is survived by his wife, Bernice of Henderson; sons, Richard of Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif., and Steve of Ontario, Calif.; stepson, Gaylord Humphries of Groton, Conn.; stepdaughter, Pamela Hanson of Lyle, Minn.; sisters, Kathryn Dennis of Austin, Minn., and Marilyn Wakefield of Anaheim Hills, Calif.; 10 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until services at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Palm Mortuary-Henderson. Burial will follow at Palm Memorial Park-Henderson.

Joan Lothrop

Joan Lothrop, 71, died Feb. 17.

She was born May 25, 1931, in Danbury, Conn. A retired teacher, she was a seven-year resident of Henderson.

She is survived by her sons, Matthew Baker and Mark Baker, both of Brentwood, Calif., and Reed Baker of Del Mar, Calif.

Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. today at Palm Mortuary-Jones.

Sam Marrone

Sam Marrone, 84, died Saturday at Nathan Adelson Hospice.

He was born Aug. 8, 1918, in Brooklyn, N.Y. An Army veteran of World War II, he was a retired police officer, a member of the New York City Patrolman Benevolent Association and a 30-year resident of Henderson.

He is survived by his daughter, Rita Lane of Concord, Calif.; son, Gary of Henderson; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Palm Mortuary-Eastern. The family requests memorial donations be made to a charity of choice.

Bobby Mead

Bobby James Mead, 14, died Thursday.

He was born April 1, 1988, in Henderson. A student, he was a lifetime resident.

He is survived by his parents, Michael II and Carlynne; and brothers, Michael Colson II and Shayne; all of Henderson.

Services are private. Hites Funeral Home handled arrangements.

William Moran

William T. Moran, 76, died Thursday in a Las Vegas hospital.

He was born Aug. 21, 1926, in Pennsylvania. A Navy veteran, he was a retired railroad engineer, a past commander of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3474 and a 10-year resident of Las Vegas.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; son, Kevin of Houston and William Jr.; daughters, Cheryl Cuff of Moscow, Pa., and Margaret Aguilani of Gilbertsville, Pa.; and eight grandchildren.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Shrine Of The Most Holy Redeemer. Desert Memorial Cremation and Burial Society handled arrangements.

Eddie Myers

Eddie Myers, 70, died Saturday in a Henderson hospital.

He was born Dec. 21, 1932, in Springfield, Mo. A retired Marine Corps veteran of the Korean and Vietnam wars, he was a security worker for a hotel-casino, a 28-year resident of Pahrump and a member of the American Legion and AA.

He is survived by his wife, Sharalee of Pahrump; daughters, Cathy of Springfield, Mo., Shelly Kendall of Las Vegas, Robyn Race of Henderson, Bobbie Sue West of Bellaire, Mich., and Renea Sparks of Lander, Wyo.; sons, Kevin of Phoenix and Scott Schwecheimer of Bakersfield, Calif.; mother, Lylace; sister, Barbara Kauffman; both of Springfield; and 10 grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Palm Mortuary-Henderson with graveside services at 1:20 p.m. Thursday at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery. The family requests memorial donations be made to Veterans of Foreign Wars or a police or firefighters association.

Rose Peters

Rose Elizabeth "Rosie" Peters, 68, died Saturday at home.

She was born June 30, 1934, in Chicago. An executive secretary, she was a 12-year resident of Las Vegas and a member of the Great Lakes, Ill., Naval Training Center and the YMCA of Waukegan, Ill.

She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Robert "Bob" of Las Vegas; daughter, Elizabeth "Betsy" Trottier of Winthrop Harbor, Ill.; brothers, Robert "Sam" Genualdi of Bridgeport, Conn., Joseph "Joe" Genualdi of Miramar, Fla., and Martain "Marty" Genualdi of Scottsdale, Ariz.; two grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Nathan Adelson Hospice. The family requests memorial donations be made to the hospice. Sunrise Cremation & Burial Society handled arrangements.

Robert Pinckard

Robert Pinckard, 42, died Feb. 18.

He was born Feb. 1, 1961, in Los Angeles. The owner of an emergency flood service, he was an eight-year resident of Las Vegas.

He is survived by his wife, Bridget; stepchildren, Katie and Sean; all of Las Vegas; father, William of Los Angeles; mother and stepfather, Marlene Koppenhaver and Gene Koppenhaver; brother, Bill; all of Henderson; and sisters, Landi and Marlene, both of Los Angeles.

Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Canyon Ridge Christian Church. Nevada Funeral Service-Nevada Cremation or Burial Society handled arrangements.

Carol Ridders

Carol Ann Ridders, 60, died Sunday.

She was born Sept. 21, 1942, in Worcester, Mass. A retired hotel manager, she was a three-year resident of Las Vegas.

She is survived by her daughters, Carolina Hernandez and Heidi Spalenka, both of Las Vegas; son, Jay Fehr of Reno; sister, Gayle Wussick of Huntington Beach, Calif.; brothers, Wayne of Chino Hills, Calif., and Scott of Ontario, Calif.; and two grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Palm Mortuary-Jones. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph Husband of Mary Catholic Church followed by burial at Palm Valley View Memorial Park. The family requests memorial donations be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.

Lannis Ruesch

Lannis Ruesch, 36, died Thursday.

He was born April 25, 1966, in St. George, Utah. A produce clerk for a grocery store, he was a lifetime resident of Las Vegas.

He is survived by his father, Lynn of St. George; mother and stepfather, Bob Frank and Cathy Frank, both of Las Vegas; brothers, Lyle of Las Vegas, Bob Frank II of Henderson, Rodney Frank of Bakersfield, Calif., and Carl; and sisters, Sharalyn, Kirsten and Randi.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Bunkers Mortuary and one hour before services at 10 a.m. Friday at the Pecos and Osage chapel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Burial will be in St. George.

Orval Stewart

Orval W. "Abe" Stewart, 58, died Thursday in a Henderson hospital.

He was born May 14, 1944, in Central City, Ky. A retired chef in a restaurant, he was a 15-year resident of Sandy Valley.

He is survived by his wife, Diana; son, Tyler; both of Sandy Valley; daughters, Tiffany, Tina and Traci, all of Sandy Valley, and Tara and Tami, both of Las Vegas; mother, Margaret Gossett of Kentucky; brothers, Leon and Kenny, both of Louisville, Ky., and Tommy of Pineville, Ky.; sisters, Hilda Gonzales of Santa Clara, Calif., and Marjorie Stobough of Indiana; and four grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. Thursday at Affordable Cremation and Burial Service. Memorial services will be at 5 p.m. Friday at the Sandy Valley Community Center.

Gaudencia Tan

Gaudencia A. Tan, 90, died Saturday.

She was born Aug. 30, 1912, in Plaridel, Misamis Occidental, Philippines. A retired schoolteacher, she was a two-year resident of Las Vegas.

She is survived by her husband, Manuel; daughter, Dioscoro; both of Las Vegas; sons, Teodoro of Northridge, Calif., Maximo of San Diego and Carlos of Davao City, Philippines; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. until services at 1 p.m. Saturday at Palm Mortuary-Downtown. Burial will follow at Palm Memorial Park.

Fern Taylor

Fern Taylor, 92, died Saturday.

She was born May 1, 1910, in Utah. A homemaker, she was a resident of Las Vegas.

She is survived by her daughter, Louise Ferre of Las Vegas.

Burial will be in Utah. Hites Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Lewanda Tulo

Lewanda E. Tulo, 88, died Sunday.

She was born July 1, 1914, in Murphrysboro, Ill. A homemaker, she was a 30-year resident of Las Vegas.

She is survived by her daughter, Rosemary Proctor of Las Vegas; son, David of Cerritos, Calif.; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Visitation will start at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Palm Mortuary-Eastern with graveside services at 2 p.m. at Palm Valley View Memorial Park.

Samuel Winokur

Samuel "Sammy" Winokur, 89, died Saturday.

He was born Jan. 17, 1914, in Philadelphia. An Army veteran of World War II, he was a retired manager for a casino, a 51-year resident of Las Vegas and a member of Jewish War Veterans and Temple Beth Sholom Men's Club.

He is survived by his daughter, Rhonda of New York City; son, John of St. Petersberg, Fla.; and a granddaughter.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Palm Mortuary-Eastern with services at 2 p.m. Thursday at King David Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow at Palm Valley View Memorial Park. The family requests memorial donations be made to the Jewish National Fund or the Alzheimer's Foundation.

Anthony Wojcik

Anthony "Tom" Wojcik, 67, died Sunday in a Henderson hospital.

He was born July 21, 1935, in Buffalo, N.Y. An Army veteran, he was a retired supervisor in the steel industry and a five-year resident of Henderson.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy of Henderson; daughter, Stacey Kambat of Lackawanna, N.Y.; sister, Christine Buczak of Venice, Fla.; brother, Jerome of Blasdell, N.Y.; and a grandchild.

Graveside services will be at 11:20 a.m. Thursday at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Palm Mortuary-Eastern handled arrangements.

Norman Wood

Norman M. Wood, 82, died Friday.

He was born June 11, 1920, in Haralson County, Ga. A Navy veteran of World War II, he was a retired game warden for the Nevada Department of Wildlife and a 48-year resident of Boulder City.

He is survived by his wife, Bernice of Boulder City; sons, LeRoy Simpson of Lake Havasu City, Ariz., Randy Simpson of Kaslo, British Columbia, Jeffery and Brian, both of Boulder City, Steven of Elk Grove, Calif., and Jamie of Apple Valley, Calif.; sister, Norma of Tallapoosa, Ga.; 13 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Palm Mortuary-Henderson, where services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday. burial will follow at Boulder City Cemetery.
