A Las Vegas woman has been charged with murder in connection with the death of her 2-year-old daughter, Las Vegas police said.
Alejandra Sanchez brought the toddler to University Medical Center about 10:30 a.m. Sunday after the child had stopped breathing, police Lt. Tom Monahan said.
Doctors were unable to revive the baby, but medical personnel and police detectives discovered the child had suffered second- and third-degree burns over both legs, Monahan said. Other evidence of abuse was found, he said.
Sanchez, 20, initially was charged with manslaughter. After the autopsy and talks with prosecutors, the charge was changed to murder by child abuse, Monahan said.
The Clark County coroner's office has identified the girl as Alejandra Suarez-Sanchez.
