Sunrise MVP Platt tops list of honorees
Oregon-bound center leads Green Valley to Southeast title with 10-0 mark

At 6 feet 10 inches tall, Green Valley senior Mitch Platt is the area's biggest boys basketball player, and he has earned the Sunrise Regional's biggest award.
Platt, who has signed to play at Oregon, was named the region's Most Valuable Player by league coaches after leading the Gators to the Southeast Division title with a 10-0 league record. He averaged 18 points and 10 rebounds.
Though Clark had only a 2-8 league record and missed the playoffs, league coaches still felt the Chargers had the Sunset Region's top player in guard Mike Philogene.
Philogene was the area's top Class 4A scorer with a 22.5 average. He also grabbed nine rebounds per game.
Joining Platt on the All-Sunrise first team are Green Valley's Ron Dunlap, Las Vegas' Stanley Copeland, Desert Pines' Shyon Clark and Rancho's DeMario Butler.
Cheyenne's Lorrenzo Wade and Chris Fuller, Bishop Gorman's Mark Hill and Sierra Vista's Garrett Schofield complete the All-Sunset first team.
Palo Verde's Phil Clarke was named Sunset Coach of the Year, and Rancho's Melvin Shivers got the Sunrise coaching honor.
In Class 4A girls basketball, Centennial's Whitney Price, Gorman's Breona Gray, Western's Ra Chauna Randle, Chaparral's Oshaylee Thomas and Green Valley's Jabrenta Hubbard earned the top honors from area coaches.
Price was named Northwest Division MVP after helping the Bulldogs go 8-0 in the league. Gray and Randle shared the Southwest Division MVP award, Thomas was named Northeast Division MVP and Hubbard took the Southeast honor.
Joining Price on the All-Northwest first team are teammates Rachael Schein and Ashley Blake, Palo Verde's Vivian Ewalefo, Mojave's Sequoia Holmes and Cheyenne's Brandie Calbert.
Gray and Randle were joined by Gorman's Moneka Knight, Western's LaMesha Walker and Bonanza's Lyndsay Gensler on the All-Southwest team.
In the Northeast, Las Vegas' Kim Etol and Melisa Cejas, Valley's Jenee Webb and Desert Pines' Katie Williams joined Thomas.
Hubbard was joined in the Southeast by Silverado's Byronda Williams and Brittney Turner, Foothill's Roxanne Ritchie and Coronado's Erica Santigate.
Coronado's Joe Moyes was the Sunrise Coach of the Year and Western's Mel Washington earned the Sunset award.
SOCCER HONORS -- Chaparral's Cortney Sobrero, who scored 40 goals in 18 games this season, was named the Gatorade Nevada Girls Player of the Year.
Centennial's Tyler Canada was tabbed the Gatorade Nevada Boys Player of the Year. Canada had 21 goals and eight assists in the fall to lead the Bulldogs to the state title game.
Area coaches picked Sobrero as the Northeast Division MVP. The other three division MVPs were Green Valley's Kim Chock (Southeast), Durango's Stephanie Lee (Southwest) and Palo Verde's Marissa Lucero (Northwest).
All four were chosen to the All-Southern Nevada team, along with Centennial's Alida Diedrich, Cimarron-Memorial's Jessica Destito, Cheyenne's Naomi Hernandez, Bonanza's Christina Dylag, Gorman's Kate Burton, Sierra Vista's Alysen Clarke, Green Valley's Emily Eskin and Liz Winkelblech, Silverado's Brittney Romitto, Desert Pines' Keisha McDaniels, Chaparral's Jessica Torres and Eldorado's Jenine Ferguson.
CLASS 1A AWARD -- Mountain View boys basketball coach Ray LeBoeuf, whose team went 14-0 in league play, was named the 1A Southern Conference Coach of the Year.
Pahranagat Valley's Lance Higbee was chosen Player of the Year.
On the girls side, Lund's Karlee Whipple won Player of the Year and Pahranagat Valley's Amy Huntsman was named Coach of the Year.
