Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld plans to close at least 100 of the nation's 425 military bases -- more than were affected by the four previous rounds of base closings, combined.
The list is expected to doom as many as one third of current Army bases, and a quarter of current Air Force bases, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Ohio Republican Bob Ney, chairman of the Administration Committee, suggested -- and was quickly supported by his colleagues, according to The Associated Press -- that his panel sponsor a seminar for lawmakers to educate them about the effects of the McCain-Feingold campaign finance reform bill.
