NORM: Britney putting rumor in doubt

Chef Barry Dakake of N9NE surprised Britney Spears and her husband, Kevin Federline, with his dessert specialty, a caramelized banana split.

Britney Spears isn't behaving like she's pregnant.

Casting doubt on the BIG rumor, the pop princess was spotted smoking and downing four drinks at the Palms' N9NE Steakhouse on Monday night.

Back in Las Vegas for the first time since her 55-hour marriage in January, Spears and her new husband, Kevin Federline, showed up about 8 p.m. with her Chihuahua puppy, which she fed shrimp, pieces of bread and a saucer of milk.

She's a presenter in tonight's Billboard Music Awards at the MGM Grand Garden, her first public appearances since marrying Federline on Sept. 18.

Spies tell me Spears, dressed in a black dress and wearing cowboy boots, had two house Merlots and two Malibu pineapple rum drinks during her 90-minute stay at a small table in a smoking/TV area next to the bar.

Spears held her wedding/annulment dinner at N9NE on Jan. 3, hours after she married childhood friend Jason Alexander while partying at the Palms. Word has it she's designing a supersuite at the Palms.

Chef Barry Dakake surprised Spears, who turned 23 Thursday, and Federline, with his dessert specialty: a caramelized banana split with Tahitian vanilla ice cream, caramel and chocolate drizzle, strawberries marinated in grenadine and sugar, candied pecans, and mint.

Party scene

The MGM Grand's Teatro Euro Bar wraps up a two-night grand opening tonight with Usher and Alicia Keys among the red carpet crowd expected after the Billboard show, about 6 p.m.

Kanye West is hosting an open-to-the-public after-party at Tangerine (Treasure Island).

The Palms, site of an A-list bash in the "Real World" suites Tuesday night, added an after-party tonight at ghostbar after Light canceled because of a squabble with the MGM Grand over official "host" rights to Usher.

The Scene and Heard

Linda Ronstadt says she got the last laugh on the Aladdin after July's brouhaha over dedicating "Desperado" to Michael Moore. Ronstadt, booted from the property, says she kept her room key, and "we've often talked about auctioning it off for charity," she told Q Vegas, the gay and lesbian publication, in its December issue. ...

One more for the You-Know-It's-NFR-Week-When...: cast members of "Havana Night Club" (Stardust) had to give up some dressing space to make room for a new co-attraction. Casper, a friendly white horse, is being ridden through the casino to add a Western touch.

Sightings

Rio headliners Penn & Teller, playing themselves, burn an American flag in tonight's episode of "The West Wing" (9 p.m., KVBC-TV, Channel 3). ... Vanessa Bryant (Kobe's wife), buying gifts at Talulah G (Fashion Show mall). ... Eric Gagne, the Los Angeles Dodgers' Cy Young Award-winning closer, checking out Treasure Island. ... Green Day, lunching in Mr. Lucky's (Hard Rock Hotel) on Tuesday before their show at The Joint. ... Green Day bassist Mike Dirnt, playing craps at the Palms. ... Ian Ziering of "Beverly Hills 90210" fame and Brian Austin, in Pahrump on Monday, shooting "Domino," a bounty hunter film, and a cast cover shot for Vanity Fair.

The Punch Line

"Barry Bonds testified to a grand jury that he used a cream given to him by a trainer, but he didn't know it was steroids. He thought all moisturizers give you a 30-inch neck!" -- David Letterman
