The mystery of the missing meteorologist has been solved..

When John Fredericks of KVBC-TV, Channel 3 was announced as the "Best of Vegas" weatherman last Saturday at the awards show at the Rio, he was a no-show, although he attended earlier as a presenter.

So presenter Cook E. Jarr asked the other finalist and perennial winner, Nate Tannenbaum of KTNV-TV, Channel 13 to accept on Fredericks' behalf.

"I didn't think I'd win," Fredericks explained by e-mail. "I've always thought the award belonged to Nate as long as he was in Vegas."

"However," he added, "the REAL reason I missed my cue was because I was buying drinks for a U.S. serviceman who just returned from Iraq. I just wanted him to know how much he was appreciated and respected. I guess I kinda lost track of time ... for a worthy cause!"
