Woman hurt in crash wins $4 million

REVIEW-JOURNAL

A Clark County jury has returned a $4 million verdict on behalf of a woman injured in a car accident in 2000.

Lynn Welch was driving north on Maryland Parkway, trying to make a left turn into the center travel lane of Dorothy Avenue, when her car collided with a vehicle driven by Larry Nelson, 29. Welch's attorney, Robert Vannah, said Welch suffered a neck injury that required surgery in the Feb. 24, 2000, crash.

Welch subsequently sued.

After a seven-day trial before District Judge Mark Denton, the verdict Thursday awarded Welch nearly $5 million dollars. The award was reduced to nearly $4 million based on a formula used by the jury to determine the amount of negligence each motorist had in the crash.

An attorney for Nelson could not be reached, but Vannah said he expects the verdict to be appealed.
