PHOTO: Living Fast

Bobby Darin's bad heart made his life a race against time, and he knew the score from his youth. Against the advice of professional peers, he recorded a creepy song from the anti-establishment: "Threepenny Opera." The resulting 1959 hit, "Mack the Knife," made him a star. He was 26 when photographed at the Flamingo in 1962; recordings made there the next year were released on CD in 2000. Darin died in 1973 at 37.
