NORM: Surprises in store in new Cirque show

Cirque du Soleil and Beatles reps didn't play all their cards during Thursday's announcement detailing the new Beatles show at The Mirage.

Cirque founder Guy Laliberte would say only that a surprise is in the works when the theatrical production featuring Cirque performers opens in the spring of 2006.

Tentative plans include the incorporation of such Cirque characters as Father McKenzie from the 1966 hit "Eleanor Rigby" and possibly "Lady Madonna." Let your imagination run with the visual possibilities of "Strawberry Fields," "Yellow Submarine," "Penny Lane" and "The Long and Winding Road."

Surviving Beatles Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr won't be appearing in the show. The Beatles had a total of 20 No. 1 singles in the United States between February 1964 and June 1970.

The 2,000-seat show, which will give Cirque a total of five on the Las Vegas Strip, is the replacement for Siegfried & Roy's long-running magic act that came to a startling end about 12 months ago with the near-fatal mauling of Roy Horn.
