Las Vegas whips Rancho, wins 'Bone Game' again
REVIEW-JOURNAL
Thing started well for Rancho's football team Saturday, as the Rams' Scott McCorkle intercepted a Las Vegas pass on the third offensive play of the game.
Things turned bad almost as quickly, as Rancho (1-7, 0-3 Northeast Division) fumbled on its first offensive play, and Las Vegas' Jamal Lomax returned the ball 61 yards for a touchdown. The Wildcats (6-2, 2-1) went on to defeat the Rams 49-14 at Canyon Springs to take the annual "Bone Game."
Eric Jordan led Las Vegas, rushing for 229 yards and four touchdowns on 20 carries. He had TD runs of 19, 46, 30 and 6 yards. Lomax had 106 yards on 10 carries, including a 40-yard touchdown run.
Jordan had two touchdown runs in the first quarter as Las Vegas took a 21-0 lead. He had 103 yards rushing in the first quarter. Las Vegas limited the Rams to 23 yards of offense in the first half, and the score remained 21-0 at halftime.
Rancho scored on its first possession of the second half when J.T. Bley hit Ariece Perkins with a 17-yard touchdown pass. Bley later hooked up with Terrence McGill on a 65-yard scoring pass. McGill took the pass near the line of scrimmage, stiff-armed a defender and sprinted to the end zone.
After McGill's touchdown made the score 42-14, Las Vegas' Dante Fielder scored on a 26-yard run to close the scoring.
Bley finished 10-for-22 for 148 yards, and McGill caught five passes for 101 yards.
The victory was Las Vegas' ninth straight in the rivalry. Rancho's last victory came in 1995. Las Vegas won the 1998 game, but had to forfeit the victory for using an ineligible player.
