Las Vegas High's football team is the last local squad standing as the Wildcats prepare for the Class 4A state final on Saturday against Hug. So it's no surprise that they dominated the top honors as area coaches released their All-Region teams Wednesday.
Las Vegas running back Jamal Lomax was named the Sunrise Region Offensive Player of the Year, and Wildcats defensive lineman Xavier Cleveland was co-Defensive player of the year, sharing the award with Silverado linebacker Ben Jacobs.

Lomax was one of two area players to top 2,000 yards rushing. He has run for 2,049 yards and 29 touchdowns to lead the Wildcats' offense.
"He's our go-to guy," Las Vegas coach Chris Faircloth said. "He's the guy that carried us week in and week out. He plays as hard as he can every play, whether it's blocking or running the ball."
Lomax didn't become a full-time starter on offense until his senior year. He spent two seasons backing up Eric Jordan, who led the area in rushing last season before transferring to Shadow Ridge this fall.
"We knew (Lomax) was a good running back," Faircloth said. "I don't think we knew how good he was. He had the opportunity, and he came through with flying colors."
Cleveland, a 6-foot-1-inch, 265-pound defensive lineman, has keyed a Las Vegas defense that has allowed a total of 28 points over the last seven games, including three shutouts. Cleveland has 14 sacks and 19 tackles for loss, but Faircloth said the senior can make an impact even when not making a tackle.
"We didn't have any doubts going into the season that he was going to be a force for us," Faircloth said. "He helps free up our linebackers and other individuals, because they have to account for Xavier, and they usually have to double team him to have any success."
Jacobs helped lead a Silverado defense that posted two shutouts and allowed an average of 13.6 points. Faircloth saw how good the 6-4, 225-pounder was when the teams met in the Sunrise Regional semifinals.
"He's just a great all-around football player," Faircloth said. "He does everything for those guys over there."
Faircloth and Foothill's Marty Redmond, whose teams met in the Sunrise title game, were named co-Coaches of the Year.
In the Sunset Region, Bishop Gorman's DeMarco Murray was named the Offensive Player of the Year. Murray ran for 1,930 yards and 27 touchdowns and caught 22 passes for 610 yards and seven scores.
On defense, Western linebacker Ron Paulo was named the Player of the Year. The 6-2, 225 pound linebacker led the Warriors with 150 total tackles.
Cimarron-Memorial's Ron Smeltzer was named Sunset Coach of the Year after leading the Spartans to the Sunset title and an appearance in the state semifinals.
