More rain
expected
in valley
REVIEW-JOURNAL
As much as an inch of rain could fall on an already soaked Las Vegas Valley by 4 p.m. today and up to 2 feet of snow could fall around Mount Charleston and the Red Rock Canyon National Recreation Area, according to the National Weather Service.
No flash flood warning or watch had been issued as of 8 p.m. Sunday because forecasters expect the rain to fall steadily, Las Vegas weather service spokesman Brian Fuis said.
The snow is expected to hit at altitudes above 5,000 feet, he said.
Forecasters have issued an urban and stream flood advisory until 4 p.m. today, meaning there could be flooding in low-lying areas and intersections.
January and February have been one of the wettest two-month periods on record in the valley, with 3.41 inches of rainfall so far versus only 2.72 inches through the first two months of 1941. That year ended up being the wettest ever recorded in Las Vegas with 10.72 inches of rain.
The weather service predicts a daytime high today in the mid-50s.
