FEMA aid OK'd for storm costs

REVIEW-JOURNAL

Nevada's government agencies are eligible for partial reimbursement from the federal government for cleanup costs related to snowstorms in mid-January, Gov. Kenny Guinn announced on Wednesday.

Every county in the state except Esmeralda is eligible for the assistance from the Federal Emergency Management Agency following a disaster declaration from President Bush. The agency will reimburse up to 75 percent of overtime and equipment costs generated by local and state governments.

The declaration covers storms from Jan. 6 through 10. It follows a similar declaration last week that covered storms that dropped several feet of snow on parts of the state between Dec. 29 and Jan. 2.

A request by Guinn for a presidential disaster declaration for mid-January rainstorms that flooded parts of Southern Nevada, including Mesquite and Overton, is pending.
