Depending upon your source, the Ferrari-Maserati dealership at Wynn Las Vegas is either the busiest in the United States or an average contributor to United Auto Group's annual sales figures.

Since its opening at the end of April, the Penske/Wynn Ferrari-Maserati dealership has sold 56 new and used vehicles, predominately Ferraris and Maseratis. Other speciality automobiles, such as Mercedes-Benz, are also available.

The United Auto Group, operators of the dealership, wouldn't give dollar figures, but a new Ferrari can cost upward of $190,000 to $200,000.

According to the dealership's Web site Wednesday, Penske/Wynn had nine new vehicles available, including three 2005 Ferrari F430s ranging in price from $192,367 to $209,112.

A 2005 Maserati Coupe was the lowest priced new vehicle at $105,698.

Penske/Wynn listed 30 used vehicles, including several different Ferrari models, two Bentleys, a Porsche 911 Turbo, a 2005 Lotus Elise and a 2004 Lamborghini Gallardo for $169,900.

United Auto Group Senior Vice President Tony Pordon said the Penske/Wynn dealership's performance has been on average with the company's worldwide sales.

"We're obviously pleased with the success the dealership has had in just a short time period," Pordon said. "As with any dealership, it takes time to get a footing, and our Las Vegas location has been quite successful."

Pordon said all the sales were for vehicles driven out of the Penske/Wynn showroom; "Burning gas, as we like to say."

He said the waiting period for a specially ordered Ferrari can take up to two years.

During a conference of casino designers last month, Wynn Las Vegas President Marc Schorr said the dealership was more than just a unique design feature of the $2.7 billion resort. Sales in the first two months made it the nation's busiest Ferrari and Maserati dealership, Schorr told the conference.

Located near the Wynn Las Vegas parking garage on the northern side of the building, the dealership has a showroom for up to 10 new vehicles. An 11,000-square-foot basement showroom for used vehicles can house up to 35 cars.

The dealership also has a six-bay service center for Ferraris and Maseratis as well as a large parts facility and areas set aside for vehicle detailing.

Pordon said Southern Nevada Ferrari and Maserati owners have been the primary users of the auto service center, meaning they no longer have to make trips to either Southern California or the Phoenix area for routine maintenance.

The United Auto Group, which recorded more than $9.8 billion in net sales in 2004, owns and operates 240 franchises worldwide, 136 in the United States.

The crowds that initially packed the Penske/Wynn dealership may have slowed sales initially, so the dealership instituted a $10 per person entry fee. However, the dealership quickly did away with the practice, Pordon said.
