Striker VIP takes importance to a whole new level

Striker, the ultimate insider, charms the ladies, wows the men and ensures his clients get what they want when they're in Vegas.

Dubbed the ultimate insider, Steve Striker is not a VIP, he's a very, very important person.

Striker, 52, offers his Striker VIP, a $300 an hour hosting service to celebrities, executives and those who desire top-notch treatment. Parties for two to 2,000 held in private mansions with helicopters ready on launch pads, beautiful women waiting in pools, celebrity chefs cooking in the kitchen, luxury automobiles in the driveway and hit bands jamming for your friends are a common occurrence in Striker's world.

Born an only child in Iowa, Striker built his contacts the old-fashioned way, networking. Today most of his clients come to him by word of mouth. His client list includes the likes of Robert De Niro, Val Kilmer, Joe Montana, and Tom Sizemore to name just a few. Striker said 80 percent of his clients are repeat customers. Whether they're sultans from Saudi Arabia or a "lovey-dovey" couple from Iowa, Striker VIP provides red-carpet service.

Q: Obviously you plan extraordinary parties for your clients, what is a service you offered that sticks out in your mind as truly incredible?

A: I had a group of 30 coming to town for a bachelor party. They weren't your normal bachelors. They told me they didn't want any girls. So I thought, 'OK, what do they want?' Well it turns out they were porn stars. They wanted a guys, guy weekend. They see girls at work, so they want to do something manly. I contacted a company in the desert where they could shoot automatic weapons. A helicopter flew them around while they shot at moving objects. It was exactly what they wanted.

Q: Do you ever have clients who ask for hookers?

A: If I even smell something illegal, I won't do it. My reputation in this town is crystal clear.

Q: You have women who work for you, what do they do?

A: I have 14 women who work as hostesses. They are all 10s. They are all beautiful, articulate women who know the landscape of Las Vegas. They accompany clients to dinner and ensure they get where they are suppose to go. We offer the complete experience. We'll pick you up and drop you off on the tarmac, take you to parties and make sure the whole time you have what you need -- always top-notch service.

Q: How long did it take for you to establish yourself in Las Vegas?

A: I moved here full-time six years ago, but I've been coming for 20 years. It probably took me 10 years to establish myself.

Q: There are a lot of people in town who say they're VIP hosts. How does that make you feel?

A: You see all these young guys running around town saying they're hosts because they know a few guys at the door. I call them vigilantes. They're taking people around and leaving them at the door. They are tarnishing the reputations of legitimate hosts. We spend a lot of money on licenses. If you drive people to the airport you need a taxi license. You see these guys selling door passes. That just puts you in another line. We make sure you don't wait in any line.

Q: You are dressed today in a beautiful pin-striped suit. Do you take pride in what you wear? Who taught you to be fashionable?

A: All my suits are custom made by Dion Julian in Hollywood. (Striker opens his jacket showing me the label on one side and "Striker VIP" sewn in the other side). You will never see me in less than a $3,000 suit.

Look, if a chef came around the corner of the kitchen and he was skinny, would you trust the food? You have to look the part. My hostesses all wear black. Black to me means elegance and class. I have always been fashionable. As a teenager I wore designer jeans.

Q: Do you have plans to combine your fashion sense and your business sense?

A: I'm launching a magazine geared towards the 1.7 million people who come (here) for conventions. Vegas is organized confusion when you get here. It will make everything accessible, my insiders guide to Las Vegas. I'm also launching a jewelry line. This (Striker points to the crown charm on his necklace) will be the symbol for the line. I'm working with a jeweler in Santa Fe, New Mexico. The slogan for my business is "Be King." Who is the ultimate king? God. I'm a very spiritual person. I will give a percentage of the sales from the jewelry line to nondenominational churches.

Q: It seems you are always working. What do you do when you're off?

A: My wife is the CEO of a software company so she works a lot too. Sunday is God's day. We're together on Sundays. We turn off the phones and I may field calls in the evening, but that's our time.

Q: Do you ever go to spas?

A: Yes, I go to Canyon Ranch at least once a month. It takes the pressure out of life. I get facials, massages, even manicures and pedicures. I'd go more often, but I am so busy.

Q: How do you see the landscape of Las Vegas nightlife?

A: There are two crowds in Las Vegas, either you are in or your out. One group is eating steak in the restaurant and the other is in the rain outside watching.
