SENIOR ACTIVITIES

BOULDER CITY SENIOR CENTER

The Boulder City Senior Center, 1001 Arizona St., is open 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Mondays through Fridays (293-3320).

The center offers continental breakfast and a weekday buffet-style lunch with a full salad bar for $2.50 as well as Meals on Wheels; transportation (7:30 a.m.-3 p.m. daily); information on Social Security, Medicare and senior law issues; live entertainment; exercise classes; yoga; and bingo and cards. It also has a Wednesday morning health fair.

CAMBEIRO SENIOR CENTER

The Arturo Cambeiro Senior Center, 330 N. 13th St., is open 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. Spanish and English are spoken (382-6252, ext. 135).

Meals are served to people ages 60 and older at 11:30 a.m. daily for a donation of $1.50.

The center also offers classes in citizenship and conversational English, arts and crafts, exercise programs and table games.

CAMBRIDGE CENTER

Cambridge Center, 3930 Cambridge St., offers a meal program on Fridays for $1.75. Preregistration is recommended (455-7169).

Activities at the center include bingo, field trips and guest speakers.

The Clark County Health District conducts blood-pressure checkups 9:30-11:30 a.m. on the second Friday of each month.

COLEMAN SENIOR CENTER

The Cora Coleman Senior Center, 2100 Bonnie Lane, is open 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays (455-7617).

Classes offered include arts and crafts, computers, defensive driving, exercise and dance, and special-interest courses. Other activities include pinochle, euchre, health screenings, guest speakers and holiday celebrations.

Field trips to various areas of interest and attractions in Southern Nevada are scheduled throughout the year.

DERFELT SENIOR CENTER

The Derfelt Senior Center, 3343 W. Washington Ave. in Lorenzi Park, is open 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Mondays through Fridays (229-6601).

A Red Hat Society Chapter meets at 1 p.m. on the third Tuesday of the month.

Tai chi classes are offered at 9 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, and introduction to Reiki is at 1 p.m. Thursdays. The cost is $3 per class.

DOOLITTLE SENIOR CENTER

Doolittle Senior Center, 1950 N. J St., is open 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays (229-6125).

Activities include bowling, computer classes, dominoes, water fitness, golf, hikes, pinochle, sewing and a community garden. There also are health screenings, trips and special events.

DULA GYMNASIUM

Dula Gymnasium, 441 E. Bonanza Road, adjacent to the Las Vegas Senior Citizens Center, offers a variety of classes and activities such as basketball, a walking group, weight-loss classes, table and paddle tennis, tai chi and cribbage. The center also has a bocce league all year, as well as round-table discussion groups (229-6307).

There will be a hike at Red Rock Canyon National Recreation Area at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday. The cost is $1.

EAST LAS VEGAS COMMUNITY AND SENIOR CENTER

East Las Vegas Community/Senior Center, 250 N. Eastern Ave., is open 8:30 a.m.-6 p.m. Mondays, 8:30 a.m.-9 p.m. Tuesdays through Thursdays, 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Fridays and 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturdays (229-1515).

The center offers a variety of dance, art, music and fitness classes, a computer lab, a pottery studio, and weaving looms and lessons.

FRIENDSHIP CIRCLE

Friendship Circle, 830 E. Lake Mead Parkway, Henderson, is operated by The Salvation Army. Hours are 7 a.m.-5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays (565-8836).

Services include the Star Program for physically and mentally disabled adults, meals, nursing, and mental and physical exercise. Low-income assistance and Medicaid are available.

GOLDBERG SENIOR CENTER

The Alice and Harry L. Goldberg Senior Center, 2309 Renaissance Drive, Suite B, is open from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, and 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Friday (933-1191).

The center offers social service assistance through Las Vegas Senior Lifeline, a program of the Jewish Federation of Las Vegas. Assistance also is available in transportation, nutrition, homemaking, medical care and home improvements. The center has nondenominational services for people age 60 and older.

HENDERSON SENIOR CENTER

Henderson Senior Center, 27 E. Texas Ave., is open 8 a.m.-9 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays; 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Fridays; 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturdays; and 10 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Sundays (267-4150).

Lunch is offered weekdays from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. for a suggested donation of $1.50. Meals also are delivered (565-4626).

Breakfast is offered 9-11 a.m. Saturdays. Cost is $1.50. On Sunday, lunch is served at noon for $1.50.

Classes and activities include arts and crafts, billiards, bingo, knitting and crocheting, line dancing and card games.

Services include blood-pressure screenings, medical forms assistance and Social Security assistance.

KING SENIOR CENTER

The Economic Opportunity Board Community Action Partnership Martin Luther King Senior Center, 2420 N. Martin Luther King Blvd., Building B, North Las Vegas, offers hot lunches served daily with a suggested donation of $1.50, health services, commodities, computer classes, a fitness program, senior home repair program, bingo and other social activities (647-2536).

LAS VEGAS SENIOR CITIZENS CENTER

Las Vegas Senior Citizens Center, 451 E. Bonanza Road, is open 9 a.m.-10 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays (229-6454).

Classes and activities include beading and knitting, painting, pinochle, exercise classes, blood-pressure checks, monthly birthday parties and living will workshops. Aerobics classes are at 9 a.m. Mondays through Fridays.

Several groups meet at the center each month including Clark County Gem Club; Cactus, Water & Energy Conservation Society; Senior Citizen Originals; Senior Tripsters; Senior Citizen Advisory Board; International Association of Certified Ceramic Duncan Teachers; the 10th Amendment Club; and Las Vegas Fun Time Singers.

The Nevada Humanities Committee and Discussion Group meets 10-11:30 a.m. Thursdays.

The center is hosting weekly ballroom socials featuring the Boyd Coulter Good Times Band from 6:30-9:30 p.m. Saturdays. The cost is $3.

Diabetes classes are at 9 a.m. the second Wednesday of the month.

Dance classes include: country line dancing, 1 p.m. Tuesdays and 3 p.m. Thursdays; square dancing, 7 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays; beginning tap, 10 a.m. Fridays and 10:30 a.m. Tuesdays; intermediate tap, 11:30 a.m. Tuesdays; Silver Sensations, 1 p.m. Fridays; belly dancing, 11 a.m. Fridays; ballroom dancing, 1 p.m. Wednesdays and 6:30 p.m. Saturdays; beginning hula, 5 p.m. Fridays; hula, 7 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, and at 6:30 p.m. Saturdays; and swing dancing, 2 p.m. Saturdays. The cost is $3 per class.

LIEBURN SENIOR CENTER

Howard Lieburn Senior Center, 6230 Garwood Ave., is open 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Mondays through Fridays (229-1600).

The center offers aerobics, games, ballroom dance, blood-pressure checks and exercise classes, among other activities and services.

LIED SENIOR CARE CENTER

Lied Senior Care Center, 901 N. Jones Blvd., provides assistance and supervision to impaired adults, 6:30 a.m.-7 p.m. Mondays through Fridays (648- 3425).

The center is operated by the Economic Opportunity Board Community Action Partnership and offers socialization, therapeutic activities, nursing services, meals and snacks, as well as recreation.

MESQUITE SENIOR AND COMMUNITY CENTER

Mesquite Senior and Community Center, 102 W. Old Mill Road, Mesquite, is open 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays (346-5290).

Lunch is served 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. weekdays for a suggested donation of $2.50 for people 60 and older and $4 for anyone younger than 60. Meals also are available for homebound seniors who qualify, and the suggested donation is $2.50.

Classes and activities include recreational trips, concerts, tile and card games, AARP 55 Alive driving classes, computer classes, craft classes and monthly birthday celebrations.

Health and wellness programs also are available.

NORTH LAS VEGAS RECREATION CENTER

North Las Vegas Recreation Center, 1638 Bruce St., offers activities for senior citizens 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Mondays through Fridays (633-1492 or 633-1600).

Classes and activities include gym walking, tai chi, sittercize, beginning computer sessions, ceramics, arts and crafts, bridge, dances, seminars and meal service. Monthly trips also are organized.

NORTHWEST SENIOR CENTER

Northwest Senior Center, 6841 W. Lone Mountain Road, is open 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Mondays through Fridays and offers activities ranging from tighten, stretch and tone classes to writing for pleasure. A Red Hat Society meets the third Monday of the month; reservations are recommended (229-4794).

OVERTON SENIOR CENTER

United Seniors Inc., 475 S. Moapa Valley Blvd., Overton, offers senior activities 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Mondays through Fridays (397-8002).

Meals are served five days a week for a donation of $2.50. The Meals on Wheels program is available for the homebound for a donation of $2.50.

Classes and activities include cards, billiards, ceramics, line dancing, hearing aid services, blood-pressure checks and medical equipment loans.

PARADISE COMMUNITY CENTER

Paradise Community Center, 4775 McLeod Drive, offers senior activities, including movie days, bingo and field trips, 7:30 a.m.-7 p.m. Mondays through Fridays and 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturdays (455-7513).

PARKDALE COMMUNITY CENTER

Parkdale Community Center, 3200 Ferndale St., offers activities for senior citizens 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays (455-8502).

The center houses a computer lab, arts and crafts area, and multipurpose room.

Classes include dance, language, arts and crafts, exercise, computers, finance, and health and nutrition.

There also are game days and field trips are planned each month.

SILVER MESA RECREATION CENTER

Silver Mesa Recreation Center, 4025 Allen Lane, North Las Vegas, offers activities for senior citizens 9-11:30 a.m. Mondays through Fridays (633-2550).

Classes and activities include tai chi, yoga, gym walking, chess, checkers, basketball, volleyball, billiards, table tennis, cribbage and others. There also is a fitness room.

Monthly senior trips are arranged through the neighborhood recreation center (633-1600).

VETERANS MEMORIAL LEISURE SERVICES CENTER

Veterans Memorial Leisure Services Center, 101 S. Pavilion Center Drive, is a full-service center offering paddle tennis, the Cards and Conservation Club, a walking club, aerobics and fitness classes, and basketball for seniors (229-1100).

WALNUT RECREATION CENTER

Walnut Recreation Center, 3075 N. Walnut Road, is open 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Mondays through Fridays (455-8402). The center is open to those 50 and older.

Activities include community excursions, guest speakers, cards and games, arts and crafts projects and classes, holiday parties, wellness checks and other activities.

A low-impact exercise class is offered at no charge.

WEST FLAMINGO ACTIVE ADULT CENTER

West Flamingo Active Adult Center, 6255 W. Flamingo Road, is open 8:15 a.m.-5 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays; 8:15 a.m.-9 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays; and 8:15 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturdays (455-7742). The center is open to those 50 and older.

Activities include acting classes, computer classes, knitting and crocheting, exercise classes, tai chi, yoga, watercolor, dance classes, pingpong, card games, field trips and monthly special events.

WHITNEY COMMUNITY AND SENIOR CENTER

Whitney Community and Senior Center, 5712 E. Missouri Ave., is open 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays (455-7576).

Classes and activities include drama/acting; art; ceramics; collectibles; computer; health, nutrition and fitness; defensive driving; Spanish; bingo; cards; guest speakers; holiday celebrations; potlucks; mah-jongg; Scrabble; piano; and field trips, among others.

WINCHESTER COMMUNITY CENTER

Winchester Community Center, 3130 S. McLeod Drive, offers social activities including card games, lectures, entertainers, movies, field trips, senior exercise, tai chi, yoga and ceramics.

A book club meets at 1 p.m. the second and fourth Thursday of each month.

An art gallery and a walking path also are at the center. An open house is 9:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Wednesdays. (455-7340).

SENIOR PROGRAMS

Nevada Care Connection, a service of the Economic Opportunity Board Community Action Partnership, provides information on community programs and services for those 60 and older, their caregivers and their families, and to seniors who are caregivers. A licensed social worker provides personal and confidential referral assistance, information and support to seniors (388-2589).

The Henderson Allied Community Advocates group serves people age 55 and older who need assistance with transportation, Meals on Wheels, respite care and senior companionship (486-6770, ext. 243).

The Gay and Lesbian Senior Social Connection meets at 2 p.m. the first Sunday of the month at 953 E. Sahara Ave., Suite B-25 (436-2439).

The Southern Nevada chapter of the Alzheimer's Association offers information about the disease, along with support and other services. Support groups meet at various locations (248-2770).

Nathan Adelson Hospice, 3131 S. Swenson St., offers a bereavement support group at 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. the first and third Thursdays of the month (733-0320).

The Las Vegas Chapter of Retired Public Employees of Nevada meets at 2 p.m. the second Tuesday of each month at the American Legion Hall, 733 Veterans Memorial Drive.

Clark County Health District, 625 Shadow Lane, offers a foot care clinic 8 a.m.-4 p.m. weekdays. Appointments are necessary. A donation is requested (759-0840).

The Happy Hoofers, a senior tap group, is available for performances at all types of functions including those at retirement and nursing homes, and veterans' gatherings. There is no charge. Classes are at 11 a.m. Mondays and Fridays at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1753, 705 Las Vegas Blvd. North (737-6664).

The Las Vegas Tappers group is looking for men and women to exercise and tap (361-8593).

The Silver Belles Tap Dance Company is available for community events, senior housing, nursing homes and charities. The group also offers a three-hour dance class for $3 (614-8871).

The Nevada State Troupers are available for club dates, community affairs, fund-raising, reunions, nursing homes, churches and schools. Donations are accepted and then turned over to various charities. The group also offers a two-hour dance class for $2 (878-1090).

The Rascal Pack, a senior group of veteran entertainers, is available evenings for musical and comedic performances (737-6923).

The Fletcher MusiClub of Las Vegas provides entertainment for local seniors' groups featuring music of the '30s, '40s and '50s, along with big band, patriotic and country music (871-4418).

The Chuck Minker Sports Complex, 275 N. Mojave Road, offers a stretch class for seniors at 9 a.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays (229-6563).

University Medical Center's Senior Celebrations, a health education program, offers a senior fitness class at 8:30 a.m. Mondays and blood-pressure checks at 8:30 a.m. the first Friday of each month at 1800 W. Charleston Blvd. (383-2095).

The senior skating club, Rink Rats, meets at 9 a.m. Mondays and Thursdays at Crystal Palace, 4680 Boulder Highway (458-7107).

A senior citizen slow-pitch softball league plays at 8:30 a.m. every Tuesday and Thursday at Lorenzi Park, 3300 W. Washington Ave. (363-0660).

A women's senior softball league for ages 48 and older plays on Sundays (251-9784).

SeniorNet, 314 Las Vegas Blvd. North, offers computer classes for seniors taught by senior volunteers. Courses include word processing, graphic design, spreadsheets and Internet access (363-2626).

Opticare, a program that offers free cataract and glaucoma screenings to people 50 and older, makes weekly visits to housing communities, mobile home parks and senior centers (363-1555).

Seniors on the Go offers short trips for seniors (656-2982).

Young at Heart Senior Travel offers short and extended trips around the Southwest for people on limited incomes (254-9812).

Senior Class Action Trips, a group for seniors, their families and friends on limited incomes, meets at various times and places (362-5744).

The Adventurers Travel Club offers day and extended trips and cruises to senior citizens, their families and friends (247-8780).
