Forest Service land sale bill OK'd

RENO -- The House of Representatives approved a bill Monday authorizing the sale of small parcels of Forest Service land in Northern Nevada for private development, Rep. Jim Gibbons said.
The six parcels in Douglas County and Carson City are in residential and commercial areas or near highways.
Proceeds from the Nevada National Forest Disposal Act would go for fire prevention, trail upkeep and education.
Gibbons, R-Nev., sponsored the bill in the House.
It now goes to the Senate. Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev., and John Ensign, R-Nev., have introduced similar legislation.
