CARSON CITY -- Nevada Tax Commission Chairwoman Barbara Smith Campbell announced Tuesday she will retire Nov. 30 after serving 19 years on the commission that resolves tax disputes and formulates state tax regulations.
"It has truly been a privilege to participate in setting the tax policy for Nevada," said Campbell, the commission chairwoman for 10 years. "The explosive population and economic growth in the state of Nevada has propelled the expansion of the Department of Taxation in its role of administration, collection and governance of taxes. "

Campbell also serves as vice president of Finance for MGM Grand Resorts Development. In addition, she is a trustee on the Donald W. Reynolds Foundation, one of the largest private charities in the nation.
"She has done a remarkable job and is one of the best appointments I ever made," said former Gov. and U.S. Sen. Richard Bryan."
Campbell initiated several public access initiatives that ensured citizens had input on tax regulations and other regulatory issues. Throughout her career on the commission, Campbell also worked to ensure people were afforded legal rights in appealing Taxation Department decisions.
In Reno, Campbell serves as a trustee on the University of Nevada, Reno Foundation Board. She has been a past board member of KNPB, Reno's public television station, Regional Water Planning of Washoe County, United Way of Northern Nevada and the Sierras, the Nevada Women's Fund, the Reno-Sparks Chamber of Commerce and the National Judicial College.
