The Las Vegas High offense has received much recognition this season for its ability to put big points on the board.
But defense was the story on Friday, as the second-ranked Wildcats shut down Canyon Springs' passing game en route to a 30-6 road victory.

Jamal Lomax rushed 25 times for 139 yards and four touchdowns to lead Las Vegas, but half that output would have sufficed.
"I'd like to give credit to our defensive backs," said Wildcats coach Chris Faircloth, whose team held Canyon Springs to 35 yards and just two first downs in the first half. "They stepped up and did a really good job."
The defense's effectiveness was vital in the first half, as the Pioneers held Las Vegas to 116 yards and a single touchdown by Lomax to make the score 6-0 at halftime.
"I think we came out really flat," said Faircloth, whose team improved to 7-1, 4-0 Northeast. "We did a poor job of getting ready for this game."
Things quickly improved in the second half, as the Wildcats recovered their opening kick when no Canyon Springs player was able to field a ball that took an awkward bounce.
Las Vegas took over from there, going ahead 24-0 in the third quarter on two rushing TDs by Lomax and a 60-yard pass from O'Ryan Bradley to Avant Gates.
The Pioneers, meanwhile, battled poor field position throughout, as Las Vegas punter Jeremy Craddock put three punts inside the Canyon Springs' 15 yard-line.
"It's hard to win a football game when you're always inside the 20," Faircloth said.
The Pioneers (5-3, 3-2) racked up some yardage late in the third quarter, scoring on a 63-yard pass from Dennis Parker to DeCasio Collins.
But the Wildcats answered with a 1-yard plunge by Lomax midway through the fourth to seal the victory.
Bradley completed 10 of 20 passes for 114 yards and a touchdown for Las Vegas.
Parker completed 9 of 28 passes for 140 yards and a touchdown to lead the Pioneers.
