PLAYER'S EDGE: Las Vegas Hilton changes its player's club rules

The Las Vegas Hilton has made several major changes to its Resorts International Player's Club. Unlike the past, when members had both a cashback account and a comp account, all benefits have now been combined into one reward balance, which is expressed in dollars. Members may redeem their dollars for cash (at the booth) or for comps (directly at the restaurant cashier or when they pay their hotel bill).

Resorts International Player's Club Rewards can be earned at the tables (approximately one hour of $25 action earns one reward dollar) or at the machines though unlike most clubs which reward points based on coin-in, Resorts International bases the reward dollar on a player's "theoretical loss," which is determined by the specific game he plays and how long he plays it. According the club's brochure, members earn on average one reward dollar for every $125 coin-in, but in reality slot players will be getting a lot more rewards than video poker players. Any unredeemed cash and comp dollar benefits under the old club have been rolled over into the new system. And the club is keeping its popular "Hot Spot" program giving local members a 50 percent discount on shows and a 25 percent discount on meals.

You can pick up a free set of barbecue cooking utensils at the Nevada Palace when you earn 400 points ($500 coin-in) on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Earn 750 points ($375 coin-in) at Binion's in 24 hours (any day) and receive a free logo backpack. In both promotions, players do not have to redeem their points, but there is a limit of one gift per day.

At this time of year, Monday nights are party nights at many casinos. Sam's Town is giving all party attendees a free beer and hot dog, plus there is a drawing for prizes at the end of each game. At Fiesta Rancho, NFL fans can enjoy 99-cent Bud and Bud Lite during the first hour and can earn 5x points at the machines. If you swipe your players club card at the Sahara during the first quarter of the game and the second half kickoff is returned for a touchdown, you are automatically entered into a drawing where 10 attendees will win $2,500 each.
