Late in Coronado's second game on the first day of the Fred Davison Memorial softball tournament on Monday, coach Shari Zeigler knew her team needed a spark.
Zeigler called for a squeeze bunt and Bianca Query delivered, sparking a seven-run rally that gave the Cougars a 9-1 victory over El Capitan (Calif.) at West Flamingo Park.

Coronado, a 3-1 winner over Cimarron-Memorial earlier in the day, was one of just two area schools to win both games Monday. Centennial defeated Banning (Calif.) 10-5 and West Torrance (Calif.), 14-2.
Down 1-0, the Cougars went to work against El Capitan sophomore pitcher Julianna Duncan in the top of the sixth. Candice Harris opened the inning with a single, moved to second on a sacrifice and took third on a passed ball.
Query, who told Zeigler just a few weeks ago that she would love to put down a squeeze if given the chance, dropped a perfect bunt down the first-base line, scoring Harris for the tying run.
"I'm glad Bianca reminded me about the play sometime back," Zeigler said. "I have complete confidence in all of my players at the plate, and it looked like a perfect time. We really needed a lift, and that play turned the game around."
The Cougars followed the squeeze play with six more runs, highlighted by a two-run double from Lacey Beckberger and a two-run single by Harris. Coronado sent 11 batters to the plate in the sixth.
