Talent scouts for Freemantlemedia, the company that produces "American Idol," will be looking for boy bands, girl bands, comedians, novelty acts, ventriloquists, animal acts, acrobatic acts and burlesque acts, Muskat said.

"We are looking for your best 2-4 minutes," she added. Auditions will run from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. both days.

SHAKE-UP AT KLAS

Longtime KLAS-TV, Channel 8, sports director Dave McCann is moving to the 5 a.m. weekday morning anchor chair with Denise Valdez.

Effective immediately, McCann replaces morning anchor Casey Smith, KLAS Vice President of News Bob Stoldal announced Monday.

Charlotte Evans and Gary Waddell will co-anchor at noon, and Evans will team up at 4:30 p.m. with Dave Courvoisier.

McCann has been a news and sports anchor during his 14 years at the station and provided news reports to ABC's "Good Morning America" while working in Provo, Utah.

Valdez came to KLAS earlier this year from KNBC in Los Angeles, where she was the weekend anchor of Southern California's No. 1 late night newscast.

Smith is leaving Channel 8 "to further pursue his professional career," according to the announcement. Stoldal thanked him for his "dedication and contributions."

NEW HD STUDIO

Sony and Robin Leach are teaming up on VegasHD Studios, a major production facility.

In a deal to be announced today at the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) convention, the studios will open in early 2007 in an unidentified Strip hotel and provide services ranging from TV and motion picture post production to commercial production.

"Now, what happens in Vegas can be sent around the world instantly in every possible format," Leach said.
