Designers take center stage at annual fashion event

A standing room only crowd gathered at the OPM nightclub in the Forum Shops at Caesars Aug. 7 for the Nevada Association of Fashion Design's sixth annual Touch of Fashion event.
Co-sponsored by the University of Nevada, Las Vegas Educational Outreach program, the party featured clothing designs by budding and experienced designers.

The event opened with the national anthem sung by Kelli Crossley, 2005 Miss Nevada Teen USA, followed by singer A.J. Marie.
Television and talk show host Pete Allman served as master of ceremonies. Lauren Scyphers, Miss Nevada USA 2006, introduced Lt. Gov. Lorraine Hunt, the recipient of the Bella Fashion Award. She received the crystal award for her sense of style.
OPM had five video screens in the room, enabling all to see the runway as the Touch of Fashion's Las Vegas Red Carpet Fashion Experience began with designs by YekeYeke of Hungary, who is not only a fashion designer but a professional boxer, singer and model.
Among the other designers showing their collections were Courtney Droessler, showing dresses ranging in theme from Camelot to London; Mei Shu showing her original designs; Terry Horton showing her All Girls Designs; and Nancy Berry offering her trendy wear named Exposure.
Also, a lingerie collection was displayed by designer Alicia Jividen; Christina Elizabeth showed her Strawberries and Cream collection of dresses; Luella Chavez displayed the feminine designs of her Chic Sophisticate; Gregg Bodine showcased futuristic styles in his New Millennium Collection; and Jennifer Smith showed her Vegas Bikini Cafe 2006 Collection.
Victoria Campe, founder and president of Nevada Association of Fashion Design and program director of its educational program, presented Sizzle by Desert Wear 2006; Maria Bruce offered Colleccion Latina, showing her designing skills of more than 20 years in sewing, alterations and patterns; and Gigi Morris, founder and president of the Fashion Design Coop of Nevada, presented her 12-piece Red Carpet Fashion Collection for Vegas Wear Couture, featuring sexy eveningwear.
The agencies providing the models and talent were McKenna Model & Talent and Impact Models & Entertainment.
Le Masquerade: It was the continuation of a 90th birthday party for Franz Czeisler Tihany, owner of the worldwide traveling Tihany Spectacular Circus, that started at his estate in Guadalajara, Mexico, and continued Saturday with a VIP party given by Sandy Peltyn, Papote Varet, and Deborah and Robert Holgate at Wynn Las Vegas.
The tables in Wynn's Alsace Ballroom were decorated with centerpieces of masks and feathers in brilliant colors. If there was anyone among the 120 invitees without a mask, a mask workshop created one for him or her.
Masters of ceremonies were Sandy Peltyn and her son, R.J. Peltyn.
A band led by Carlos Elarza played for dancing all night long, and professional dancers had the guests up on the dance floor trying a wild salsa.
Featured entertainers were Suzanne Goulet, a Liza Minnelli impersonator; puppeteer Anthony Rae; and guitarist Michael Batista.
Guests included John Mendoza and Eva Garcia, Lynette Chappelle, Don Barnhart and Kelly Rowe, Mary Vail, Alana and Joe Vassallo, Carlos Collado, Carmin Vega and Ashley Ray.
The late supper of Caesar salad, lamb chops, rigatoni Bolognese and fettuccine Alfredo was followed with cotton candy and candied apples. There were specialty drinks as well as an open bar.
Seen enjoying the festive evening were Isabel Pfeifer, Elaine Newton, Joe LaVigna, Deedee Jasmine, Sandee Comito, Julie Fleischman, Mona Orr, Carlos deRosa, Otto Merida, Marta and Jorge Fernandez, and Vivian and Waldo DeCastroverde.
Winning prizes for the best masks were Michael Flach, Marta Fernandez and first prize went to Annee Nounna.
