The girl was brought to Sunrise Hospital by her mother on Friday night suffering from head trauma, said Lisa Teele, supervisor of the abuse and neglect unit. The child's is improving and "doing a lot better" than when she was checked in, said Teele, who confirmed the mother was a Summerlin resident.

Police are still investigating a similar case involving a 2-month-old boy with head injuries who was taken to Sunrise Hospital Aug. 21 by his mother. The boy had brain swelling and hospital staff called police about the injuries, Teele said. The child is still in critical condition, she said.

Teele would not say whether any charges will be filed in either case. Teele said neither family has had a history with child protection services.
