Party girl Nicole Richie is out as Tangerine's New Year's Eve host, and a controversy involving reigning Miss USA Tara Conner may scuttle her 21st birthday party at Pure nightclub on Tuesday.

Richie was arrested on DUI charges earlier this week and could face jail time.

Conner, the 2006 Miss USA pageant winner, could lose her crown over rumored inappropriate behavior at New York City bars, according to published reports.

Conner's party at Pure (Caesars Palace), which has been advertised for several weeks, is in question but has not officially been called off.

Richie's driving troubles in California were behind the cancellation of her gig at Tangerine, said Steve Davidovici, partner at Pure Management Group, which runs the club.

"We love Nicole and we wish her the best. We hope to bring her back in the future," Davidovici said.

TRUE OR FALSE

A British newspaper is reporting that the Las Vegas rockers The Killers are being considered for a major musical role in the next James Bond film.

That's news to Robert Reynolds, The Killers' manager, who said, "We've not been approached, but obviously any opportunity would be seriously considered."

The Sun, a tabloid with a history of coming up with, umm, colorful stories, reported that The Killers are being lined up to record the film's opening titles.

"The Killers have reached the perfect point in their career to do a Bond track," The Sun quoted an anonymous source as saying. "They have the right sound, right look and a huge fan base, making them the perfect choice."

The next Bond movie is due out next November, with the new Bond, Daniel Craig, returning after his debut in "Casino Royale."
