The Plaza Casino Big Daddy Burger Eating Contest Saturday attracted stars from the International Federation of Competitive Eating. Contestants took on the 9-pound Big Daddy Burger with gusto, but to no avail against the methodical Sonya Thomas, who is the top-ranked eater in the United States. The 105-pound Thomas, 37, of Alexandria, Va., easily broke the record she set last year -- 27 minutes this year, compared to 48 minutes and 10 seconds in 2005 -- to win the $4,000 prize. Above, Thomas concentrates on her work. Finishing second was Rich LeFevre of Henderson.
Remnants litter the table after the contest.
And competitive eater Allen Goldstein makes a big entrance.
