A standoff with police and a man suspected of raping a woman ended violently Wednesday when the suspect fatally shot himself inside a home on the 4900 block of Roskott Circle, near Gowan Road and Decatur Boulevard.
The suspect, whose identity was not immediately available, briefly took a man hostage at the house he had commandeered on Roskott Circle, Las Vegas police Sgt. John Loretto said.

The hostage was not harmed during the incident and escaped shortly after the suspect entered the house, he said.
Police said the incident began about 2 a.m. Wednesday when the suspect went to the woman's place of employment, an X-ray business on the 5400 block of Duncan Drive, near the house where the standoff took place, and forced her into a vehicle owned by her employer.
The suspect sexually assaulted the woman and released her about 4:30 a.m., police said. A passer-by found the woman with her hands bound at the far north end of Jones Boulevard, police said.
The woman then contacted police and told them she had been sexually assaulted. The police contacted the owner of the X-ray business and learned that the truck stolen by the suspect had a GPS tracking system in it, Loretto said.
Police located the truck on Gowan Road, and the suspect tried to ram it into a police vehicle, Loretto said.
The suspect then ditched the truck in the neighborhood, entered the house on Roskott and took a man hostage, police said.
The homeowner got away, and the Las Vegas police's SWAT team arrived. A neighbor, who declined to be identified, said she heard the police yelling over a speaker to the suspect: "Pick up the phone" and "Nobody's going to get hurt."
Police officers entered the house about noon and found the man dead with a self-inflicted gunshot wound, Loretto said.
"They think he probably did it before they (SWAT) even got onto the scene," he said.
