Unlike other parts of the county which are experiencing heat waves, Las Vegas hasn’Äôt cooled much at night and won’Äôt in the days to come.
The temperatures during the day aren’Äôt breaking record highs, but the low temperatures this week are expected to be record-breakers, said Jim Harrison, meteorologist at the National Weather Service’Äôs Las Vegas office.

The low temperature is expected to be around 87 degrees every day this week and every day is expected to match or slightly break Las Vegas records for highest low temperatures, Harrison said.
The good news, Harrison said, is that the daytime high temperatures are supposed to come down to around 101 by Saturday. Moisture from Tropical Storm Amelia near Mexico will cool off the valley, he said.
But there also will be the chance of severe thunderstorms every day this week, which could result in flooding and wildfires, Harrison said.
Isolated thunderstorms are expected in the afternoon today with a high of 109 degrees and a low in the upper 80s, according to the National Weather Service.
