American Kennel Club judges Pat and Rosalie Alvarez, a husband and wife team, were on hand to judge the competition.

The Lied Animal Shelter presented its fourth annual Best in Show event on June 4 at the Orleans Arena. The family event included celebrity guests, entertainment and a silent auction that took place at an Indoor Street Fair. Tables surrounding the arena could be purchased for brunch preceding the show.

More than 60 dogs from the shelter competed in the small, medium and large breed categories to be judged by AKC judges Holly and Steve Schorr of Las Vegas and Rosalie and Pat Alvarez of Los Altos Hills, Calif.

Television personality Robin Leach welcomed the crowd and introduced Christy Molasky, who sang the national anthem; Carrot Top, who entertained; and master of ceremonies Steve Schorr. Schorr is vice president of Cox Communications.

Co-hosts Craig Uhlir and Andrea Coli, cast members of "The Second City" provided a comic relief throughout the show.

Animal lovers Claudine Williams and Kitty Rodman served as honorary co-chairs. Fierro Communications provided a video about the foundation.

Among the dog lovers attending were Sharry Quillin, Bonnie and Doug Crosby, Nancy Houssels, Sallie Doebler, Estir MacAlister, Sibyl Manthei, Ann Lalli, Marilyn and Mel Larson, Myra and Brian Greenspun, Maureen and Phil Peckman, Marlene and Andy Wheeler, and Lee and Jim Medick.

The dogs were paraded around the arena by Lied personnel and community leaders including Dale Wynn and state Sen. Randolph and Robyne Townsend. Two dogs from each category competed for Best in Show, won by Fritz, a labrador/dachshund mix, judged by Steve Schorr. The successful event, co-chaired by Dale Wynn, Jodi Fonfa and Jane Gale, found homes for the dogs and raised funds for the Lied Animal Shelter.
