NORM: Baby rumors in doubt after Spears' partying

Pete Rose tells magazine his life in Vegas pretty 'boring.'

Britney Spears' affection for champagne, martinis and amaretto sours during a Las Vegas outing this week is putting those pregnancy rumors on the rocks.

Recent photos of a curvier Spears have been raising speculation that baby No. 2 might be on the way, but Spears wasn't behaving like a mommy-to-be Tuesday while celebrating her husband's 28th birthday.

Spies said she had at least one cosmopolitan martini during dinner at Tao (The Venetian) before partying on amaretto sours and Dom Perignon champagne until 3 a.m. at Pure nightclub at Caesars Palace.

Most mothers-to-be don't drink alcohol during pregnancy. But then again, most mothers don't hold their infant son in their lap while driving (a recent incident that has raised questions about Spears' parenting skills).

The 24-year-old Spears, who put her pop career on hold to start a family, danced on a VIP bed at Pure and nuzzled with hubby Kevin Federline throughout the night.

In addition to his birthday celebration, Federline was reported to be in town for a nightclub appearance as a warm-up for the release of his first studio album, "Off The Record." It is set to be released April 25.

PETE EYES JAPAN

Pete Rose, in a question-and-answer article in the April issue of FHM, questions why he hasn't been approached about managing a baseball team in Japan.

"I'm surprised I've never been asked to go there," Rose said.

Banned from Major League Baseball's Hall of Fame, Rose's main income now comes from signing autographs at a store at Caesars Palace 15 days a month.

Rose was asked, "Doesn't spending half your time in Vegas hurt your image?"

No, said Rose, because "I'm not a casino gambler. I like the races, but if baseball asked me to quit doing that, I would. I wish baseball followed me around Vegas. They'd say 'boring.' "

THE SCENE AND HEARD

Rachael Riegert, the girl in the tennis commercial featuring Findlay Toyota's John Barr, teams up with her mother, Joan, on MTV's "Date My Mom," airing at 5:30 p.m. March 30. The Riegerts auditioned at the Aladdin/Planet Hollywood in September. Rachael, a sophomore at UNLV, was a wildest-dream contest winner on Mark and Mercedes in the Morning (KMXB-FM, 94.1) and a finalist in the Review-Journal's image section model search. ...

Mark Stevens, a part-time radio personality at KWNR-FM, 95.5, will be atop KWNR's billboard this morning at Tropicana Avenue and Arville Street for a stunt. There are hints that he's joining Brooks O'Brian and Mitch Kelly on the morning show.
