A federal grand jury returned an indictment Tuesday against attorney Mark A. Lobello, who was charged with concealing assets from the Internal Revenue Service, according to the U.S. attorney's office.
Lobello, who specializes in personal injury, wills and trusts and corporate law, didn't pay about $137,000 in personal income tax between 1997 and 2001, the indictment said.

The indictment alleges Lobello earned $585,184 in taxable income during the five-year period. He concealed his true income by dealing in cash and using his business checking account to pay for personal expenses, it said.
The attorney also used several taxpayer identification numbers and opened an off-shore bank account in the Bahamas, the indictment said.
Lobello also repeatedly filed motions to quash IRS requests for his records and sent letters to clients demanding they rescind tax forms that showed Lobello earned taxable income, according to the indictment.
The government alleges Lobello conducted his financial affairs in a manner designed to conceal his true income.
A 33-year resident of Las Vegas, Lobello is the lead attorney in The Lobello Law Firm. He received a bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas before attending law school at the University of California, San Diego, according to the Lexis-Nexis Martindale-Hubbell Web site.
He has defended several major casinos including the Stardust, Fitzgeralds and the California in Las Vegas.
He is scheduled to be arraigned Dec. 1 before U.S. Magistrate Peggy Leen.
